ESBAAR offers drone and AI-powered solutions to a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, mining, utilities, infrastructure, telecommunications, security, and surveillance, among others.
ESBAAR was established with the vision to lead as a drone and AI solutions provider in the GCC. The company's mission is to help businesses and investors improve operational reliability, simplicity, and efficiency by enabling higher investment returns and reducing cost and risk. The team strives to provide services that meet regulatory requirements and are in line with industry best practices and transparency.
ESBAAR was established in 2017 by Omani entrepreneurs as the first local provider of drone and AI-powered solutions in the country. ESBAAR conducted its first commercial drone operations in early 2018 for one of the largest oil and gas companies in the nation. Since then, ESBAAR has expanded its offered services, and eventually, the team inflated to 95 employees by 2022. Currently, ESBAAR is an approved and trusted provider of drone and AI-powered solutions to all major oil and gas companies in the country. By 2022, ESBAAR has completed over 15,000 safe commercial drone flights in Oman, which is the highest record to be achieved by any local company. In 2019, the company launched its wide range of AI services, enabling clients to build custom AI models to analyze aerial data collected by drones to offer fast and accurate insights. Fast-forwarding to 2022, ESBAAR is set to launch the largest drone, Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, in the GCC for a major oil and gas company that will enable the clients to conduct asset inspections more efficiently while reducing hazards on its staff significantly. ESBAAR's vision is to expand into other GCC markets by the year 2023, offering its wide range of services for all major oil and gas companies in the region.
Sami Al Adawi is the CEO of ESBAAR and one of the founders of the company. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky in the USA and has developed a passion for artificial intelligence and machine learning. Since 2017, he put his immense knowledge and experience to work along with his team towards building ESBAAR. Within 4 years, Sami and the co-founders managed to lead ESBAAR and turn it into one of the leading drone companies in the GCC region.
Through the vision of ESBAAR's founding team, the company managed to influence the industry and the policies in Oman to support disruptive technologies and applications that led to putting the country on the top among other MEAN region countries.
By conducting safe commercial operations led by its 100% Omani team, the co-founders of ESBAAR managed to support the country's vision of 2040 by adopting and developing new smart technologies that enable sustaining the resources and sensitive industries such as oil and gas. Sami claims that ESBAAR is the first company in Oman to introduce new career positions such as 'drone pilots'. Along with that, ESBAAR has increased awareness about the use of such technologies among different sectors including government, local companies, international companies, and others. This kind of movement enabled several organizations to speed up their digital transformation plans and processes by relying on local resources. Sami reveals that he and his team is benefiting the clients by providing services through collected data that is stored locally, which increases the security of operations. By having all the required needs and experiences of such technologies next door, Omani companies managed to work closely with ESBAAR to make most of their artificial intelligence needs possible at low cost and high value.
The co-founders of the company believe that modern innovation is redefined by the new types of technologies which's potential has not yet reached its full capabilities, such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud services. In most industries, such technologies are applicable and support the management and operations fields. For many applications, certain functionalities are still running conventionally, and now, with such disruption, many organizations have started to adopt new methods using digital products or even developing their own solutions. Sami remarks that nowadays, the pace of change in the economical field is highly impacted by the 4th industrial revolution technologies, and organizations that are not responding to this impact are going to fail and struggle to survive.
In Oman, some organizations are taking the slow path into digital transformation over the fear of impact these disruptive technologies will have such as loss of jobs, high costs of changing operation procedures, etc, claims Sami. ESBAAR understands the local and regional challenges and the impact of digitization. Therefore, within 2-years of launching the drone operations commercially, ESBAAR has introduced a wide range of customized AI solutions to support its clients and respond in an innovative way to aid their operational challenges and turn them into commercially feasible services and products.
According to the co-founders, adopting an open mindset in leadership where learning and improvement are part of daily work and activities is what makes ESBAAR a recognized innovative solution provider. Through its market analysis and intelligence, the team records any past, current, and future challenges that the organizations are facing in their industry of service. By having this information, ESBAAR manages to either introduce new technologies or develop new solutions. Also, to improve the way ESBAAR is innovating, the company is headhunting the best candidates in the market in a fair way that will enable them to attract and retain employees with an innovative mindset and advanced skills at all company levels and departments. Through that, the harmony and base of communication and work are uplifted to the company's vision and mission.
Sami says that ESBAAR also works closely with other organizations and SMEs in the local and international market to develop new technologies and digitally transform others firms in Oman. This helps the company make innovation even more possible.
Sami remarks that ESBAAR has faced several challenges, however, through its improved experience, the company has managed to overcome those obstacles and mitigate its way of operations to ease the process. In Oman and similar countries, flying drone policies are very strict, which limits the use of technologies. Therefore, acquiring flying drones permits in an accelerated process. Other challenges include overcoming the clients' fear of applying drone solutions by having a drone fly above their facilities. ESBAAR has been working with the responsible authorities and clients to speed up the process of acquiring drone permits for each project and manage to conduct the jobs within the project schedule. Also, ESBAAR has developed its own health and safety procedures and it is the first-ever company to do so. It is leading Oman's drone operations and acquiring a record of Zero Lost Time Injuries as of May 2022. With its high profile, the company has managed to convince most of its clients about the safety and benefits of drones and other artificial intelligence solutions.
ESBAAR is the first local dedicated provider of drone and AI-powered solutions in the Sultanate of Oman, the co-founders claim. ESBAAR holds the record for the highest commercial drone flights completed in the country, with over 15,000 commercial drone flights being safely executed since its inception. Besides, this year, ESBAAR was awarded the largest Drone Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations contract in the GCC with a major oil and gas company.
The co-founders of ESBAAR demonstrate that the drone industry is still at the beginning of its potential cycle. A drone is just a flying robot, a medium, where the potential of the technology lays in the significant value and importance of collected data. Drones can be used in a wide range of industries. In some industries like oil and gas, agriculture, security and surveillance, and defense, the use of such technologies is reaching high and advanced stages. While in other sectors such as logistics, rescue, construction, and more, the use of drones is still limited. The enormous variations and use of drones are marking its potential to be developed and further improved for many services. Commercially and on civil bases, drones are going to be a primary part of daily activities. The drone industry is thriving day by day, and the human capital involved in this industry is also increasing.
