The Metaverse concept first appeared in Neal Stephenson's 1982 cyberpunk novel Snow Crash. Epyllion CEO Matthew Ball gives popular definitions of the metaverse: "The Metaverse is a massively scaled and interoperable network of real-time rendered 3D virtual worlds and environments that can be experienced synchronously and persistently by an effectively infinite number of users with an individual sense of presence and with continuity of data, such as identity, history, entitlements, objects, communications, and payments."
The metaverse groups cutting-edge technologies such as augmented, virtual, and mixed reality, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, the internet of things (IoT), edge computing, and cloud computing to create the perfect digital experience for users.
According to Verified Market Research, the metaverse market will be worth US $824.53 billion in 2030, up from US $27.21 billion in 2020. According to the Citi GPS report "Metaverse and Money," the metaverse could attract up to 5 billion users by 2030.
There are many detractors of the metaverse. Apple CEO Tim Cook, for example, sees no future for the company. Investors are urging Meta to reconsider its strategy and abandon what they see as overly ambitious plans to develop the technology.

We have no idea what the future holds for the metaverse. We also don't know if and how this new world will influence the healthcare industry. Whatever happens, we will undoubtedly take another step towards more advanced technology. The work being done to develop the metaverse will perfect many solutions that are currently in use in the real world. This will have a significant impact on doctors' efficiency and working conditions, as well as patients' lives.
