Pokémon TCG Pocket is one of the most popular Pokémon-based card games on Android and iOS. Creatures Inc. considered this game to enhance the popularity of Pokémon on mobile devices, and that actually worked well.
However, with time, new features kept coming to the game, and finally, one of the most anticipated trading features also made its way to the game. The problem is it doesn’t look like what players have been hoping for.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has been running with a stable fan base since it was released on October 30, 2024, on Android and iOS devices. While most of the in-game features are satisfying, at launch, players have noticed a greyed-out Trade button. Since then, they have been asking for the ability to trade cards in-game, and finally, it's here.
A few days back, the developer team first talked about this trading feature, where it mentioned that trading has two clauses to work: first, two players who participate in the trading process must be friends in-game, and second, not all cards will be available for trading.
Now that the trading feature went live on January 29, players got to know more about the feature; most importantly, they found out that this trading process will work only when they spend a specific type of in-game item, and that’s the Trade Token.
Up to this point, things were still fine. Next, the problem began when Pokémon TCG Pocket players discovered that to earn Trade Tokens, they needed to get rid of duplicate cards of at least three-diamond value. That’s the primary reason behind fans starting to release their disappointment.
This is not completely illogical. According to the current rule, trading a three-diamond Pokémon card costs 120 Trade Tokens, whereas a One-star trade needs 400 Trade Tokens, and four-diamond trades require 500 Trade Tokens. So, basically, the scene is that, to trade one three-diamond card, one needs to get rid of five same-value cards of different types.
The trading system players have been asking for shouldn’t be like this one for sure. While the restrictions are still manageable, the high trade value is something that they aren’t ready to accept. Before proceeding, let’s check the card trading values:
One Diamond and Two Diamond cards are free of cost. They neither cost anything nor give any token.
Three Diamond cards require 120 Trade Tokens to be traded but give only 25 Trade Tokens in exchange.
Four Diamond cards cost 500 Trade Tokens, but the exchange rate is 125 Trade Tokens.
For One Star cards, 400 Trade Tokens are required to trade, but players will receive only 100 Trade Tokens from that deal.
About the Two, Three, and Crown rarity cards, they will provide players with 300, 300, and 1500 Trade Tokens from each deal, respectively, but currently, no cards are available to trade.
This high trading rate has made players furious about this feature, and they didn’t even try to hide it. On Reddit, Twitter (presently X), and other social platforms, players have been slamming Creatures Inc. for bringing such a “hilariously toxic" feature. Some players even called it a “monumental failure.”
Another thing that gamers found ridiculous is that each exchange process takes around 15 seconds. Therefore, it is possible that players will spend a few minutes on the trade menu to exchange cards.
Annoyed players keep complaining about it. One of them mentioned this trade feature as “predatory and downright greedy.”
Though things have been backfiring since this trading feature was launched, Creatures Inc. hasn’t stated anything to pacify the inflamed fanbase. Hopefully, it will take the players’ feedback to improve this feature.
