GTA 6 is the new sensation in the gaming industry. Amidst this, GTA 5 refuses to slow down. Even after a decade of its release, Rockstar’s GTA 5 has been reigning over the industry with a new sales milestone. As per the Q4 FY2025 report of Rockstar Games, GTA 5 has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 215 million units sold worldwide as of May 2025.

The success of GTA 5 after a decade of its initial release highlights its craze in the gaming industry, which is not hampered even in the massive hype of GTA 6. The latest Take-Two Interactive report revealed that GTA 5 sold 5 million units in the last quarter alone.

Sustained Sales Amidst Anticipation for GTA 6

GTA 6 is anticipated to bring hefty profit to Rockstar Games. The GTA franchise has always been one of the most successful Rockstar franchises that has created different milestones. Amidst the growing anticipation for the sixth mainline installment of the series, GTA 5 keeps dominating the sales charts.

GTA 5’s engaging open-world gameplay and continuous updates through GTA Online are the two key factors contributing to this continuous success. In the Q4 report, Take-Two Interactive stated, “Grand Theft Auto V surpassed forecasts” in its ongoing demand for GTA+.

In February 2025, GTA 5 passed 210 million copies sold over its lifetime. Therefore, the remaining five million units were sold in a single quarter alone. As per the report, this title sells over 1.5 million copies each month on average. This makes the title one of the best-selling video games of all time.

As of now, Minecraft surpasses GTA 5 in sales records. However, considering this sandbox game was released a few years earlier than GTA 5, these sales numbers are giving GTA 5 an advantage over Minecraft.

Another Rockstar Title Giving Hard Competition to GTA 5

Besides Grand Theft Auto, there’s another Rockstar franchise that delivers stunning performance. That’s the Red Dead Redemption series. The Q4 report of Take-Two Interactive highlights that another Rockstar flagship title, Red Dead Redemption 2, has reached 74 million units sold.

This is again a significant rise from its sales of 70 million in February 2025. So, in the last quarter, this game sold 4 million units. This achievement showcases Rockstar’s capability of maintaining a dedicated fan base over the years and generating substantial earnings from its decade-old titles.

The sustained popularity of these two games further demonstrates Rockstar Games' dedication to creating engaging gaming experiences that keep captivating audiences worldwide for decades.

Conclusion

GTA 5 is undoubtedly one of the most successful Grand Theft Auto games ever made. Since it was released, it has properly demonstrated what Rockstar Games is capable of. At a time when the entire gaming industry is awaiting the release of GTA 6, the persistent sales growth of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 highlights the dominance of Rockstar in the gaming world.
