January isn’t yet over, and already the gaming world is going through a tornado of updates and leaks. Starting from the GTA 6 leaks, almost every now and then, some updates or leaks are coming to the surface about the upcoming releases, and recently, one appeared about Bethesda Softworks’ upcoming FPS game, Doom: The Dark Ages.
Just a day before Xbox Developer Direct, this gameplay leak of the upcoming game from the Doom series captured fans’ sentiments and boosted the vibe further.
Leaks are one of the toughest things to deal with in the gaming industry. While these allow gamers to get some glimpses of upcoming games, these often spoil the years of effort from the developer teams to create surprise elements for the fans. Despite loads of precautions, it’s almost impossible to get rid of this headache completely.
Xbox Developer Direct is scheduled for January 23, which is confirmed to showcase a few game trailers, and Doom: The Dark Ages is among them. However, spoiling this appearance, a gameplay scene came to light on January 22nd. A YouTuber named Gougaru uploaded that video, which seems to have been captured during a private screening, as human heads are also visible in that.
The video shows several in-game environments, including dungeons, inside scenes of different structures, a destroyed outer world, the protagonist's army, etc. However, this demo didn’t have any gameplay scenes; instead, it looked more like a tech demo showing the game's graphics quality, as the entire footage includes areas without any character or combat. Without a doubt, the visuals are eye-catching.
Many players eagerly waiting for the Xbox Developer Direct to show the demo were disappointed by this leaked footage. The video is still available and has not yet been taken down by the poster.
Therefore, it’s highly unlikely that players will get the same demo at the event. So, there’s no point in getting upset about it.
While ID Software has been preparing for the next mainline entry of the DOOM franchise, leaked videos and footage kept appearing hours before Xbox Developer Direct. Because there’s no update on the release date, players assumed it would come with the Xbox Developer Direct showcase of the game.
Players have been enjoying the suspense that they expected to be broken at the Xbox event, but one leak has already revealed that the game is set to release on May 15, 2025. An article from Gamekult stated that this release date was immediately taken down. That particular article was set to be released after the event but was somehow published beforehand, spoiling the suspense.
Well, the surprise regarding Doom: The Dark Ages has totally gone. However, there’s still hope for other games about to appear in Xbox Developer Direct. Players can expect to see South of Midnight and Expedition 33, along with an unnamed title that Xbox didn’t reveal.
A lot of speculations are roaming around about this surprise game, but Xbox is completely silent. Therefore, there’s no other way out than to stay tuned and watch the event to know which exclusive title is about to make its way to Xbox this year.
Sometimes leaks are good, but mostly, they mess up excitement and surprises that players would enjoy more when they come from official sources. Not necessarily all the leaked footage or videos are true, but it seems both are facts for Doom: The Dark Ages.
