Overview

  • ARC Raiders has become a major hit with its mix of survival, shooting, and machines, giving its world plenty of room for a screen story.

  • The Finals has a very different setting, built around a virtual game show, which could make it an interesting TV or film project.

  • Both adaptations are still in the early stages, so there is no confirmed cast, release date, or final story yet.

Video game adaptations are progressing at a rapid pace. Shows and movies based on games are becoming more popular than before, which eventually draws audiences that directors once could hardly imagine. Some have also managed to bring old fans back to their favorite games.

Now, ARC Raiders and The Finals are getting the same chance. Embark Studios has teamed up with Chernin Entertainment to develop screen projects based on both games. This is an interesting move because the two games are so different.

ARC Raiders is built around survival in a future where machines have taken over the surface, whereas The Finals is based on a virtual game show where teams fight for victory. So both games offer something unique. They do not need to tell the same type of story on screen.

Why ARC Raiders and The Finals Were Picked for Adaptations

ARC Raiders has become one of Embark Studios’ biggest successes. The game launched in October 2025 and has sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. During this period, it has received major awards, including ‘Best Multiplayer Game’ at The Game Awards 2025. It also won Online Game of the Year at the D.I.C.E. Awards.

The game’s world is a big reason why it fits well as a movie or TV show. The story takes place on a future Earth, where a group of machines called ARC has taken over the surface, and people have moved underground to stay safe.

Raiders still go to the surface. They search for useful items while trying to stay alive. The machines are dangerous, but other players can be just as much of a threat.

There is enough here for a bigger story. A film could follow one group of Raiders, while a TV show could spend more time exploring life underground and the mystery behind the machines.

On the other hand, The Finals has a completely different idea. It is a free-to-play shooter built around a virtual game show. Players form teams and fight inside arenas where they can destroy parts of the environment.

The game has also found a large audience. It has passed 30 million registrations since its launch, which makes the game an interesting choice for a screen adaptation. The game already feels like it belongs in a TV setting, with the story could go beyond the matches.

A show could follow contestants, fans, organizers, or people working behind the scenes. It could also explore why the game show has become such a huge part of life in its world.

About the partnership and development of the movie and TV show,  Embark Studios founder and CEO Patrick Söderlund mentioned, “Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing Arc Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community.” He continued, “Throughout the process, the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.”

ARC Raiders and The Finals Adaptations: Story and Release Plans

This is where fans will need to wait. There is no release date for either project yet. The teams have not announced the cast, director, writers, streaming service, or TV network. It’s still unknown which game will become a movie and which one will become a TV show. More details are expected as the projects move forward.

The stories are also being kept under wraps. Fans do not expect the adaptations to simply copy what players do in the games. If that happens, the screen versions would feel too limited. ARC Raiders has enough material for a fresh story. A movie could follow a group trying to survive a dangerous trip to the surface. A series could take more time to show the lives of people living below the surface.

The Finals could take an even more unusual route. A story could follow a new contestant entering the competition and slowly discovering more behind the game show.

There is plenty of room for new characters and stories. Embark Studios will also remain involved with the projects. This is important because the games have a clear look and feel. The adaptations need to keep that identity while still working for people who have never played the games.

Two Games With Room to Grow

If you ask why gamers are already excited about the adaptations, that’s because The ARC Raiders and The Finals have something that can work outside gaming. ARC Raiders has survival, machines, mystery, and a world that has already changed. The Finals has action, competition, and a strange virtual game-show setting.

The two projects are still in a very early stage. There is no release date, cast, or confirmed plot yet. So fans shouldn't expect to see them on screens anytime soon. If the teams can build strong stories around their worlds, ARC Raiders and The Finals could become more than popular multiplayer games; they could become the next gaming worlds to find a new audience on TV and film.
