The next Industrial Revolution (aka Industry 4.0) is being driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), which can improve expensive, complex decisions by up to 30%. It's, therefore, no surprise that IDC has estimated that 500 million new AI applications will be needed in the next five years. However, that simply won't be possible at current levels of productivity. Geminos Software is one company that is addressing this problem by using AI to build AI applications more quickly and with better quality.

The Geminos platform is centered on a powerful knowledge graph that acts as a hub for business requirements, knowledge of the world around us and orchestration of the final application. It uses the concept of a digital twin of the physical world in order to provide a consistent architecture through all aspects of the platform. This unique combination creates a foundation for using advanced AI to dramatically improve the ability of developers and data scientists to understand what they need to build, what all of their data means and how to create AI-driven applications that are more accurate and reliable. And the end result will be a 10X gain in productivity.

An Experienced Leader

Stu Frost is the Founder and CEO of Geminos Software. He has 30 years of experience in founding and leading successful data management and analytics startups. Stu founded SELECT Software Tools at the age of 26 and led the company as CEO through rapid growth and expansion, including a very successful NASDAQ IPO in 1996. He then founded DATAllegro in 2003 which was acquired by Microsoft in 2008 for US$275 million. As part of the acquisition, Stu joined Microsoft to lead the data warehousing group, which generated around US$1 billion in revenues.

After leaving Microsoft in 2010, Stu created and incubated some of the leading companies in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) market, including Maana (IIoT knowledge platform), OspreyData (oil and gas analytics), NarrativeWave (wind farm analytics), ThinkIQ (food traceability) and SWARM (AI agents for complex industrial problems). During this time, he saw the market move from its very early gestation to the point where major industrial companies are starting to make significant, long-term commitments to digitization. Through this unique experience, Stu has developed a deep knowledge of the market's needs and how to successfully create and sell key technologies to meet those needs.

Developing New Approaches to Address Growing AI Demand

Stu believes in order for this new industrial revolution to be possible, hundreds of millions of new, complex AI applications will be required. However, it currently takes 10-15 highly skilled people up to 18 months to create just one new application and the resultant quality is often lacking. To bridge this enormous gap between rapidly growing demand and highly constrained supply, enterprises need a radical new approach to building applications – and that is what Geminos was created.

Stu further says innovation that appeals to the target audience starts by talking to potential customers and understanding not just what they need, but where they would like to go.

Overcoming Initial Challenges

As a young, inexperienced entrepreneur, Stu had to learn everything from scratch, including product development, sales, marketing and fundraising. "It was a time of great self-doubt, but getting through that taught me that I was capable of succeeding and also that I was very resilient to the stresses and strains of leadership," he mentioned.

Continuous Learning Drives Success

Stu started his first company at the age of 26 and led it through multiple stages of growth, to a successful IPO, learning about all aspects of creating a startup along the way. His second company was acquired by Microsoft after five years. Going through the ups and downs of being a serial entrepreneur has been an incredible learning experience and now Stu is applying everything he has learned to a new company – Geminos.

Shaping Young Minds

Stu says resilience, persistence and self-confidence are key for startup entrepreneurs. "You also have to have a very thick skin to get through multiple rejections from potential investors and customers!"
Also, he advises emerging leaders to talk to their customers and understand what is driving their needs – and then be passionate about meeting those needs.

Future of Analytics is Driven by AI

According to Stu, AI is transforming analytics, but we need to get better at building robust AI solutions that aren't just based on correlations in the data. Understanding what is truly causal is the next big step.
