The GuruVR platform is designed to provide focused and illustrative learning in an engineering curriculum in India. Expectedly, after thorough product management cycle and user responses, an extension to the education platform will be adopted in industrial training for employees.
The company has two significant operations – first, AR/VR Consultancy which designs and develops customized products for customer use and second, FireBirdVR's research wing that works on developing solution platforms in AR/VR capacity.
Further, the company is also planning for marketing research via VR-based data analytics. Also, after the full-fledged development of GuruVR platform, it will be expanded to other streams of learning besides engineering.
FirebirdVR was started in 2015. Recently, its first client Yogesh Bedmutha became its investor when the company got formally incorporated in 2018. Mr. Bedmutha always supported the Founder and CEO of the company, Akshay Rathod and encouraged him to do more.
In 2016, Dayanand Kamble, an IIM-B alumni joined FirebirdVR and provided the structure and strategy to the startup.
As VR and AR technology was still finding its ground in India, FireBirdVR was able to deliver good projects and gained experience in that space. The company got incorporated last year with a vision of becoming 'world's largest VR and AR tech enabler.
Soon after its incorporation, the company started attracting good talents. Yogesh Surwase who has 15 years of corporate experience joined as a Director and COO in 2018. His understanding of the market is exceptional. At present, FireBirdVR has a team of 13 people and is growing its efficient workforce day by day.
In 2014, as a student, Akshay used to manufacture and sell Google Cardboard Viewers under the name of MyMadBox. Soon he realized that it can be more than a hobby. More than hardware, he was inclined towards creating VR experiences, therefore, he started learning tools to create VR experiences. That's how he got into VR development. Apart from the company activities, the team at FireBirdVR is constantly working on something new and innovative.
Learning through the experiences, Akshay has become an expert in optimizing cost and time for the solutions the company is providing. FireBirdVR believes and understands that VR, AR, and MR can add a lot of value to the existing society.
With its products like GuruVR, the company aims to revolutionize how an individual learns things, beyond books and plain videos. It was difficult back then to create a VR experience, there were not many tools available, now it's just one click away.
The products GuruVR and SaarthiVR aim to solve one problem – Effective Learning. For corporates, it saves a good amount of money and time in training employees.
In India, an average engineering graduate has a low employability rate. FireBirdVR aims to change that by creating skilled graduates in higher numbers.
Akshay feels for anything to sustain, innovation is a must. In 2014-2015, the devices were not capable of delivering good VR experiences, people used to get mild headaches and uneasiness. The hardware itself was expensive, required $1000 for the headset and $1000+ for a PC to run it. But Google I/O 2014 unveiled Google Cardboard, it was for $5 which made VR more accessible towards a general audience. Similarly, with cloud computing, streaming VR right to people's home without all the heavy machines is possible now.
To grow any technology, the number of active users is important. Cloud computing is just doing that for AR and VR space.
With AI and ML, FireBirdVR can do more in optimizing the production process of VR and AR content and simulation.
The factor that makes FirebirdVR innovative is the understanding and adaptability of the VR/AR landscape. What used to take a couple of weeks is now possible in a couple of days. Not only the software but the company is also developing its compatible hardware so that end-user-experience is much smoother. The company is currently working closely with one of the universities to create something amazing.
• In 2016, FireBirdVR successfully delivered India's first-ever complete Virtual Reality Fashion Show.
• Working with Boston Consulting Group was a big deal for the company. According to Akshay, it was just because of the company's technology that FireBirdVR got an opportunity to work with a big firm like BCG.
• FireBirdVR's clients come back to it, again and again, expecting something innovative and the company never fails to deliver it. Additionally, clients appreciate the company's honest efforts towards providing the expected result as after understanding the requirement, FireBirdVR takes care of everything from hardware, software to training.
Akshay believes that the VR and AR industry will gradually move towards mixed reality as the MR hardware becomes more accessible to the general audience. The content FireBirdVR is currently creating will be futureproof considering MR. The company will be expanding more in sectors like Fashion, Retail, Healthcare, and Fitness alongside few consumer and enterprise hardware products.
