Mylab Discovery Solutions Pvt Lab, a Pune-based medical company, has developed India's first Covid-19 detection kit. The company has shipped the first batch of 150 to diagnostic labs in Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Goa and Bengaluru last week. The kit became the first one to receive commercial approval from the Indian FDA/ Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and is named as Mylab PathoDetect COVID-19 Qualitative PCR kit. Mylab, which also develops testing kits for HIV and Hepatitis B and C, and other diseases, says it can supply up to 100,000 Covid-19 testing kits a week and can produce up to 200,000 if needed.
Corona Kavach is a Covid-19 tracker, which has been developed and released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MHFW). The app uses persons' smartphone data to track their location and alert them if they are in close contact to a coronavirus patient or at risk of being exposed to the virus. The app is aimed at providing information about coronavirus and get information. As the app is still in progress, it is now available for download in beta for Android phones on the Google Play Store.
A new novel coronavirus test may make diagnosing Covid-19 as easy as the flu. The new point-of-care test from Abbott laboratories recently received an emergency-use authorization by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which can deliver outcomes in just five minutes. As it will run on Abbott's ID Now platform, which is small, lightweight and portable, the test may soon be available in urgent care clinic that begins shipping April 1.
