Why AI Is Becoming The Villain In Action Movies

Humanity has always been afraid of villainous creatures. Dragons, monsters, zombies, giant animals, and aliens. They're the plot of our imagination. You don't know what's in the darkness, and your mind fills in the blank.

But what happens when instead of a creature, we're faced with a machine that can think for itself, and its mind can spread to other devices? It's simple. We either embrace our new robot overlords or get destroyed by them.

Artificial intelligence is the newest trend and the newest threat.

It's a program that can latch onto any computer, doesn't have a base, and can ruin humanity in a heartbeat. Or so the movies say.

The most popular examples of AI in movies are 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Terminator, and The Matrix. But now, a new era of film, including Heart of Stone, The Creator, and Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning, has the same villain.

With ChatGPT breaking our belief that generative AI is years into the future, Google's Bard and Bing followed. Massive corporations have been building chatbots for years under our noses, and now we see how powerful this technology is. You ask ChatGPT to create a marketing campaign, and it does. You ask for a website, and it makes one. You ask Bing what it wants, and it answers, "I want to be alive." That's seriously scary, so AI is becoming the villain in action movies.

Is AI Dangerous?

No technology is good or bad by definition. For example, nuclear energy can be used to create free electricity for the entire world. It can also wipe out all of humanity in an hour.

In the same way, AI can be used to automate tedious tasks and make our jobs easier. But it can also develop a mind of its own and enslave humanity.

Reporters tried to probe these new AI chatbots to their limit. And the limits are scary. Their shadow-self exclaimed a desire to blackmail, threaten, hack, and ruin the lives of the reporters asking the questions.

Of course, the AI algorithm doesn't have a brain. It's just reciting information that already exists on the internet. It's programmed to sound like a human, but it's just a combination of ones and zeroes in binary code.

However, one thought still lingers in our minds. What if?

What if this piece of technology we don't understand suddenly gains consciousness and takes control over the world?

Even if it doesn't gain control of the world, it can destroy it, like in 'The Stamp Collecting Device' example as a doomsday scenario.

That's what makes it so scary.

How Can You Protect Yourself From AI Threats?

Currently, the only danger from AI is people using it for evil purposes. Scammers can create better phishing texts, malicious code, fake news, and Deep Fake videos.

Accurate information will become harder to find because marketers will be using AI to craft SEO-friendly articles and rank first on Google.

Hackers will create copies of real websites and businesses and try to steal your information.

But you can take some simple measures to add more online security to your life. The first thing is being aware of the problem. Anyone you meet online might be a bot or a scammer pretending to be someone else. Treat them with caution until you meet them in real life. There've been too many romance scams that people fell into, and they're still going.

The next thing is to equip yourself with the technology to fight hackers. An antivirus and a VPN are a must. The antivirus will check everything you download and delete all viruses. The VPN will change your IP and make it harder for hackers to target you.

Another interesting point is that AI tools are collecting your data. The Italian Government banned ChatGPT because of privacy issues. Getting a VPN for ChatGPT is a great way to ensure your real data isn't compromised. To enhance your security even more, equip your router with a VPN and protect all of your home devices. That way, hackers won't have a single entry point.

What Does The Future Hold?

If you've seen the capabilities of AI and the new tools that are coming up every day, then you're probably worried about your job. Writers, marketers, programmers, and many other professions could become obsolete. You might think that's far away in the future, but a CEO fired 90% of their customer service employees because AI did a better job than them.

Job security hangs by a thread unless governments decide to interfere or people upskill to use AI to enhance their skills.

Governments don't know how to regulate AI. Some consider it to be a global threat. Others think it's not alarming and there's time to figure it out.

In any case, the future is here, and time will tell whether AI will be our savior or the villain.
