AI cameras will monitor traffic violations and fines will be enforced on anyone who breaks the law

To catch traffic infractions, the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has placed 726 AI cameras throughout the state. As of April 20, fines will be enforced on anyone who breaks the law. The necessity to flag down vehicles for inspection will be eliminated by the installation of a fully automated traffic enforcement system. AI cameras will monitor traffic violations, 675 of the 726 cameras will be used to catch drivers who don't use seatbelts, users of two-wheelers without helmets, and cars that don't stop after causing an accident. Four fixed cameras will be used to detect speeders, 18 cameras will be used to catch people who jump red lights, and 25 cameras will be used to catch illegal parking. Control centers will be set up in each of the 14 districts to organize this.

The AI cameras are solar-powered, and a 4G LTE SIM is used to send data. The visual processing unit in the camera box will examine every vehicle. The control room of the Motor Vehicles Department will receive photos of the vehicles that disregarded traffic laws as well as the driver. A system is in place to gather six months' worth of infraction footage. According to the Motor Vehicles Department, up to 30,000 penalty notifications may be delivered in a single day.

Meanwhile, Sreejith IPS, the state's transport commissioner, stated that the public need not be concerned about AI cameras operating in the state and should simply adhere to the regulations of the road. According to the Transport Commissioner, AI cameras are intended to cut traffic accidents by 20%.
