Interview with Bhaskar Gorti, CEO, Platform9

Cloud computing, which underpinned the world's economy, global supply chains, and remote workforces during the coronavirus pandemic, is continuing to be an essential target for organizations looking for increased scalability, business continuity, and cost-efficiency in coming years. Platform9 is a company that offers the power of the public cloud on the infrastructure of customers' choice – powered by Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.

Analytics Insight has engaged in interview with BhaskarGorti, CEO,  Platform9.

Kindly brief us about the company, its specialization, and the services that your company offers.

Platform9 is the world's #1 open distributed cloud service, offering the power of the public cloud on the infrastructure of customers' choice – powered by Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies. Public clouds are walled gardens, and DIY is difficult and time-consuming. Platform9 offers a third option – an open and faster option – enabling a better way to go cloud-native. Platform9's service powers 40K+ nodes across private, public, and edge clouds. Innovative enterprises like Juniper, Kingfisher Plc, Mavenir, Redfin, and Cloudera achieve 4x faster time-to-market, up to 90% reduction in operational costs, and 99.9% uptime. Platform9 is an inclusive, globally distributed company, backed by leading investors. Platform9's mission is to democratize cloud computing, enabling its use everywhere with open-source technologies and providing a better way for enterprises to go cloud-native.

what are your growth plans for the next 12 months ?

The goal is for Platform9 to be seen as an open, cloud-agnostic option to hyperscalers and as a simpler, fully-managed option for complicated do-it-yourself projects, all on the infrastructure of the customer's choice. To do this, we plan to accelerate our go-to-market strategy so we can support more large-scale deployments of our software at major clients. Scaling Platform9 is crucial as the market demand continues to increase for open-source cloud products and technologies. In my past roles at Nokia and Oracle, I worked on building teams focused on expanding growth through customer-centricity, digitalization, and automation and plan to do the same here at Platform9.

How are disruptive technologies like cloud computing impacting today's innovation?

Cloud computing is necessary to drive digital transformation, enabling enterprises to operate and deliver value to customers where they want, when they want, and how they want it. Cloud adoption is already becoming mainstream today. However, the cloud is not necessarily about using centralized services provided by hyperscalers like Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure. Increasingly, enterprises are looking to innovate with in-store retail customer experiences, easier connectivity with private 5G networks in warehouses or oil rigs, and more personalized experiences with connected cars. All of this innovation requires the availability of cloud computing where the consumers need them for faster access instead of some centralized data center hundreds of miles away. This is ushering in the era of distributed clouds i.e., the availability of cloud computing anywhere in public clouds, private data centers, and edge locations. This is enabling new innovation, infrastructure, and application modernization as organizations take advantage of the cloud on infrastructure and location of their choice.

What is the edge that your company has over the other players in the industry?

Platform9 created the first open distributed cloud platform providing the power of the public cloud on any infrastructure: public clouds, private infrastructure, and edge. Platform9 provides an open alternative to the public cloud and a faster alternative to DIY. And, unlike other managed clouds or hybrid cloud solutions, Platform9 provides the industry's only fully-managed distributed cloud service that's infrastructure agnostic and SLA-backed.

Instead of locking into the public cloud walled gardens, or spending years in time-consuming DIY projects, Platform9 offers the only option for innovative enterprises seeking to be cloud-native. With Platform9, enterprises can reach their cloud-native transformation goals faster and focus on the applications that drive competitive differentiation.

How is your company helping customers deliver relevant business outcomes through the adoption of the company's technology innovations?

With Platform9's open distributed cloud service, companies can leverage the power of cloud computing within public clouds, private data centers, and edge locations to deliver greater business value with new use cases previously not feasible, enabling agility, ease-of-use, and scalability. In addition to experiencing a significant reduction in the overall total cost of operations, businesses implementing Platform9's technologies and the fully-managed SaaS control plane have also been proven to:

Platform9 offers a suite of products for customers to create a powerful unified cloud experience on any infrastructure, for any technology stack, backed by a 99.9% SLA:

Platform9 Managed Kubernetes

Platform9 Managed Kubernetes (PMK) is a SaaS-managed Kubernetes offering that makes it easy for you to run Kubernetes on any infrastructure — either on your on-premises data centers or in the public clouds. PMK is deployed using a unique and powerful SaaS model, where our cloud-hosted management plane remotely deploys, manages, monitors, and upgrades your Kubernetes clusters, on-premises, or on several public clouds. This enables us to provide a hassle-free Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform with a guaranteed 24 x 7 x 365 SLA for your Kubernetes environment.

Platform9 Managed KubeVirt

Platform9 Managed KubeVirt is a cloud service that makes deploying and managing KubeVirt seamless, allowing operators to focus on projects and applications that impact the business. Platform9 Managed KubeVirt is designed to bring you all the benefits of open-source KubeVirt and Kubernetes while allowing you to offload the associated management overhead to Platform9. The result will be a cloud-native, self-service, declarative model of operations that will be consistent across all of your workloads – containerized as well as virtualized.

Platform9 Managed OpenStack

Platform9 Managed OpenStack (PMO) is a SaaS-Managed OpenStack offering. PMO deploys, manages, upgrades, and monitors your OpenStack cloud on your private infrastructure, simplifying all aspects of operating a virtualized private cloud by remotely managing all of the day-2 operations. With PMO, any user can quickly and easily build virtual machines and create custom orchestration and application stacks.

Platform9 Managed Bare Metal

Platform9 Managed Bare Metal (PMB) is a SaaS-managed Bare Metal platform that is vendor agnostic and helps you transform your bare metal physical infrastructure in your data centers, co-locations, or edge locations – into an agile self-service bare metal cloud. PMB can manage hardware through both common (e.g. PXE and IPMI) and vendor-specific remote management protocols. PMB provides the cloud operator with a unified interface to a heterogeneous inventory of physical servers across diverse data center locations and enables them to build REST API-based end-to-end automation for provisioning, updates, and other management of their bare metal stack.
