Google introduced a new Noto Emoji website that gives users a dedicated place to search, explore, and download its emoji collection. The website also lets users access both 2D and 3D versions of the open-source emoji in different file formats.

Alongside viewing the emoji, the site provides downloadable 2D and 3D files. Google’s Noto portfolio remains open source, allowing developers and creators to use the designs for different projects. Google also confirmed that rawOBJ files for its Noto 3D emoji are available to the community.
The website also provides access to the original proposals that helped turn certain concepts into official emoji, offering users a look at the process behind emoji creation.
Google unveiled Noto 3D earlier this year as a major redesign of its emoji collection. The company reimagined almost 4,000 emoji with richer expressions, improved accessibility, and a three-dimensional design.
Google’s design process still begins with 2D drawings, but the Noto 3D collection also exists as true 3D models. The company created the models to add depth and physicality while retaining the expressive character associated with emoji.
Google also used an AI-powered contrast tool during development. The tool analyses emoji at the pixel level, identifies areas where contrast could be too low, and suggests solutions to improve visibility, particularly for emoji with darker skin tones in dark mode.

The open-source approach allows creators to download and work with the emoji assets. Google said the Noto 3D files can support uses ranging from immersive VR environments and indie applications to creative projects and memes.
