“Certification is not a final checkpoint, it is a continuous, disciplined process embedded throughout system development,” Kartheek explains. “The earlier we align system design with safety intent, the more effectively we can mitigate risks and ensure robust compliance.” 

Kartheek began his career as a Systems Engineer on the Satellite Communication SRT 2100 program, gradually building deep expertise across business and regional aircraft platforms. Over the years, he has collaborated with leading aerospace manufacturers, including Airbus, Boeing, Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), and Viking Water Bomber, gaining extensive experience across diverse avionics environments. 

His career progression, from Verification Lead to Certification Lead and now Technical Compliance Representative (TCR) at Collins Aerospace, reflects both technical depth and leadership in one of the most demanding domains in engineering. The TCR role itself is exceptionally selective, with fewer than 0.1% of the company’s engineering workforce entrusted with this responsibility. 

In this capacity, Kartheek is responsible for the final technical approval of avionics system packages, ensuring they meet all applicable aerospace standards before delivery. His work directly impacts aircraft safety, certification outcomes, and program risk across major global fleets. 

“Every approval carries accountability,” he notes. “You are effectively validating that a system is ready to operate safely in real-world conditions.” 

Kartheek’s contributions span some of the most advanced aircraft programs in the industry, including the Airbus A220, Bombardier Global 7500, Embraer Executive Jets, and Boeing’s commercial platforms such as the 777 and 787. His work also extends to advanced communication systems like IRT NX SATCOM and Iridium-based technologies. 

Operating within the ARP4754 framework, a cornerstone of aerospace system development and assurance, Kartheek has led the review, audit, and approval of more than 34 certification submittals across the full system lifecycle. These efforts have supported critical milestones such as SOI-4 audits and Technical Standard Order (TSO) approvals, ensuring that systems meet both design and operational safety requirements. 

“True compliance requires full traceability, from requirements to verification, so that every system behaviour is justified and validated,” he says. 

Beyond certification outcomes, Kartheek’s impact is also reflected in the rigor and efficiency he brings to engineering processes. By emphasizing early verification, independent validation, and continuous compliance visibility, he has helped reduce late-stage certification risks, one of the costliest challenges in aerospace programs. 

A defining aspect of Kartheek’s journey has been his ability to bridge technical engineering with operational understanding. His hands-on experience spans flight control systems, flight management systems, cockpit interfaces, and integrated aircraft behaviour under both normal and abnormal conditions. Complementing this expertise, he pursued flying lessons to gain direct insight into pilot decision-making and human-machine interaction. 

“Understanding how pilots interact with systems adds a critical dimension to engineering,” he explains. “It ensures that safety is not just designed, but experienced.” 

The future of avionics certification will develop according to digital engineering progress and increasing system complexity according to Kartheek's predictions. He emphasizes that model-based systems engineering and simulation-driven verification together with data-centric compliance methods have become essential for modern engineering practices.

"Certification practices are shifting toward continuous validation supported by digital models and real-time data," he observes. "This not only improves efficiency but also enhances confidence in system safety."

He emphasizes the need for regulatory authorities to work together with him while they develop safety measures which should include cybersecurity protection and human factors security because these areas are increasingly important in contemporary aircraft systems.
