Apple is reportedly preparing a new glass design for its 2027 iPhone Pro models. The launch could happen in September 2027 for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. The new iPhone Pro models may use glass across the front, back, and sides.
A thin metal frame could sit between the glass panels for extra strength. Apple reportedly wants the design to look smooth while remaining strong enough for large-scale production.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple still plans the glass-focused redesign for 2027. Gurman wrote, “a more aspirational version championed by Apple's design team used even more glass.”
Apple had earlier explored an even bigger change with an almost fully glass body. Factory tests reportedly found problems with joining the glass panels together. The design also faced durability and production problems during testing. Apple then moved toward a safer design with a metal frame between the glass sections.
The new glass design could give the iPhone Pro a smoother look than current models. The glass may curve from the front and back toward the sides. This could make the phone appear closer to one continuous glass surface.
The two reported models carry the internal names V73 and V74. They are expected to keep the size close to the current Pro models. Apple has not confirmed these design details, so the final product could change.
The latest report also clears confusion around Apple’s 2027 plans. A Jefferies analyst recently claimed the all-glass iPhone had been canceled. Gurman’s report says the wider glass redesign remains on Apple’s roadmap.
The 2027 iPhone could therefore bring a major visual change without using a fully glass body. Apple appears focused on combining a bold look with practical manufacturing needs.
