Solana’s history of outages has been a persistent criticism of the blockchain. In 2026, however, its reliability record looks materially different. The network has avoided a full outage for more than two years while simultaneously processing record transaction volumes and increasing performance.
On September 14, the Solana Foundation said the network had maintained 100% uptime since February 2024, approximately 30 consecutive months without a full network outage.
That marks an improvement from Solana’s earlier operating history, when congestion, software bugs and validator problems interrupted block production.
The uptime figure refers to the underlying blockchain. Individual applications, wallets, exchanges and RPC providers can still experience disruptions even when Solana continues producing blocks.
A major test occurred on August 12, when a routing failure at infrastructure provider TeraSwitch knocked 28.83% of staked SOL offline.
Solana Compass reported that 90 validators became unavailable for 33 minutes. The disruption brought the network within about 4.5 percentage points of the threshold at which finality would have stopped.
Despite the incident, blocks continued being produced, transactions continued landing and finality was never interrupted. Solana said the infrastructure provider fully recovered in 30 minutes.
The incident highlighted a different reliability issue: infrastructure concentration. The Solana Foundation said TeraSwitch had previously hosted approximately 38% of network stake before efforts reduced its share below 30%.
A blockchain can have many independent validators, while those operators still depend on common hosting, networking or data center providers. Diversifying this infrastructure can reduce the impact of a single routing or connectivity failure.
Solana is also pushing network capacity. Its August ecosystem report said target slot time dropped from 400 milliseconds to 300 milliseconds after two reductions during the month.
The network processed a record 216 million non-vote transactions in one day and 1.32 billion during August 17-23. Solana also reported more than USD 4.28 billion in real-world assets held across over 5,96,126 addresses.
These figures raise the stakes for reliability as more financial activity depends on continuous settlement.
As of September 16, Solana’s latest official updates do not report a full network outage. The August routing incident affected validator infrastructure but did not halt the blockchain.
Users should still distinguish network-wide availability from isolated problems affecting exchanges, wallets, validators, RPC endpoints or decentralized applications.
Solana’s reliability has improved considerably, with no full outage reported since February 2024.
Maintaining that record while transaction throughput, tokenized assets and payments expand will provide a stronger test of whether Solana can sustain dependable infrastructure under demanding real-world usage.

1. Is the Solana network currently experiencing an outage?
As of September 16, 2026, Solana’s latest official updates do not report a full network outage. Individual wallets, exchanges, RPC providers or applications can still experience isolated disruptions while the blockchain remains operational.
2. When was Solana’s last major network outage?
Solana’s last full network outage occurred in February 2024. The Solana Foundation says the blockchain has since maintained approximately 30 consecutive months of uninterrupted network operation.
3. What happened to Solana in August 2026?
A routing failure involving infrastructure provider TeraSwitch temporarily knocked nearly 29% of staked SOL offline. Despite the disruption, Solana continued producing blocks, processing transactions and maintaining network finality.
4. Why is infrastructure concentration a risk for Solana?
Multiple independent validators can still rely on the same hosting or networking providers. If too much stake depends on one provider, a major infrastructure failure could simultaneously affect a significant portion of network validators.
5. How much transaction activity is Solana processing?
Solana reported a record 216 million non-vote transactions in a single day during August 2026. Weekly non-vote transactions also reached 1.32 billion during August 17-23, providing a significant test of network capacity.
