India's aspirations in the digital space have evolved from connectivity and digital services to the next level, where AI, data sovereignty, and next-gen infrastructures will play an important role. As more organizations and government bodies adopt AI, the need for secure, robust digital ecosystems becomes increasingly essential.
In the latest episode of the Analytics Insight Podcast, Priya Dialani speaks with Dr. Keyur K. Jathal, Director, Ishan Technologies, to discuss the infrastructure that will enable the future of AI in India. In their discussion, the role of sovereign cloud, scaling AI adoption, the emergence of edge infrastructure, and why India can emerge as an important part of the global digital infrastructure ecosystem are covered. Excerpts from the Interview:
India produces vast quantities of data from UPI, Aadhaar, healthcare systems, and agricultural software applications. Much of this data is usually stored outside India. The advantage of sovereign cloud infrastructure would be to ensure that data remains within India and to help build AI solutions for India.
While many organizations have successfully piloted AI in India, scaling up these solutions is proving difficult. This is partly due to problems such as a lack of infrastructure, inadequate high-performance computing capabilities, and difficulty integrating data across departments.
Most AI technologies used today require timely decisions. Irrespective of whether it is a factory monitoring system, a security camera network, or a smart agriculture system, sending data to remote data centers may cause delays. Edge computing allows data to be processed near where it is generated.
Data centers and edge infrastructure have different responsibilities. The former is responsible for data management, while the latter ensures real-time decision-making. Thus, combining both types of infrastructure can help build an effective digital environment that enables the use of AI.
India has the ability to become a dependable center for infrastructure. This is due to its stable political environment, rapidly developing digital infrastructure, increasing number of data centers, and huge number of users.
