Try These WhatsApp Security Settings to Protect Your Encrypted Chats

Lock It Down with Two-Step Verification : Add a six-digit PIN to your WhatsApp account for extra protection. If someone steals your SIM, they won’t access your chats without this code. Go to Settings > Account > Two-Step Verification and activate it. This is your first line of defense against unauthorized access.

Use Biometric Lock for Instant Privacy : Enable fingerprint or Face ID lock to prevent others from opening WhatsApp on your device. Head to Settings > Privacy > Screen Lock. Even if your phone is unlocked, your chats will remain private. This is especially useful if you often share your device.

Limit Who Can See You : Adjust your profile visibility, last seen, online status, and more under Settings > Privacy. Choose between “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” or “Nobody.” These controls help reduce exposure and keep stalkers or strangers from tracking your activity or personal information on WhatsApp.

Stop Random Group Adds : Avoid being added to unwanted WhatsApp groups by changing who can invite you. Go to Settings > Privacy > Groups and choose “My Contacts” or “My Contacts Except…” This stops unknown numbers from dragging you into spammy or scam groups without permission.

Make Messages Disappear : Turn on disappearing messages to automatically delete chats after a set time. It’s available inside each chat under “Disappearing Messages.” You can choose 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. This feature helps keep your private conversations from lingering too long.

Encrypt Your Backups Too : WhatsApp chats are encrypted, but backups aren’t, unless you turn it on. Go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > End-to-End Encrypted Backup. Create a password or 64-digit key. Without it, no one, including WhatsApp, can access your saved messages.

Beware of Scams and Impersonators : Never share your verification code, even if someone claims to be a friend. Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading files from unknown numbers. Scammers often pose as contacts to hijack your account. Stay alert and double-check every request.
