Revolut Explained: How Europe’s $115B Fintech Became a Global Super-App

From Travel Card to Fintech Giant

Founded in London in 2015 by Nik Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko, Revolut started with a simple idea: make spending abroad cheaper and easier. It has since grown into a global financial super-app with more than 70 million customers and a $115 billion valuation in 2026.

A Financial Super-App

Revolut brings banking, payments, foreign exchange, savings, investing, crypto and insurance into one app. Users can manage multiple currencies, use virtual or physical cards, trade stocks and crypto, and access other financial tools from a single platform.

Record Revenue and Profit

Revolut reported $6 billion in revenue and $1.7 billion in net profit for 2025. Revenue jumped 46%, while retail customers reached 68.3 million. Its growing subscription, card payments, wealth, foreign exchange and interest businesses have helped build a highly diversified model.

Banking Licences Strengthen Its Reach

Revolut received a full UK banking licence in March 2026 after a long regulatory process. The licence allows it to expand traditional banking products such as current accounts, lending and overdrafts. Revolut is also expanding its banking operations across other international markets.

Investing and Crypto in One App

Revolut goes beyond everyday banking. Depending on the market, users can access stocks, ETFs, savings products and cryptocurrencies. This wider financial ecosystem helps Revolut compete with banks, specialist investing platforms and other digital fintech companies.

Revolut Is Coming Up Strong in India

India is becoming an important market for Revolut. The company has RBI authorisation for prepaid wallets and cards with UPI payments, along with an Authorised Dealer Category-II forex licence. In 2026, Revolut began a controlled beta for selected Indian users.

What Comes Next for Revolut?

Revolut is targeting further global growth, including expansion in the US and other markets. It has also applied for a US national bank charter. With its banking, payments, investing and crypto services under one roof, Revolut is positioning itself as a global alternative to traditional banks.
