OpenAI has introduced GPT-6 Astra as its most intelligent and aligned AI model yet. The model combines advanced reasoning with computer use, coding, science and professional workflows. It is designed to move beyond simply answering questions and instead complete complex tasks from start to finish.
GPT-6 Astra can work like a computer operator. It can browse websites, fill forms, update CRM records, organize calendars, create websites and test software. This agentic ability allows the model to plan several steps, use different tools and adjust its actions when requirements change.
Astra delivers major gains in reasoning and problem-solving. It scored 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 and 97.6% on FrontierMath Tier 4. OpenAI says Astra has also helped with difficult mathematical problems, including research into both short and large gaps between prime numbers.
The model is also built for large and complex software projects. Astra can understand bigger codebases, write and debug code, run tests and refactor multiple files. In Codex, it can preserve useful information across context windows, helping it maintain continuity during long development sessions.
Astra is designed for professional and scientific work, too. It can create polished documents, spreadsheets and presentations while following existing templates and styles. It can also analyse scientific data, generate plots and work with specialised software to help researchers explore results and decide what to investigate next.
Cybersecurity is one of Astra’s biggest strengths—and risks. It achieved 100% on OpenAI’s ExploitBench evaluation and reached the company’s “Critical” cybersecurity capability threshold. OpenAI has added stronger safeguards, with the launch version refusing certain advanced cyber tasks and monitoring potentially unsafe activity.
What makes GPT-6 Astra different is its ability to combine reasoning with action. OpenAI says it respects task boundaries better than earlier models, with one internal evaluation showing 0% unauthorized scope violations compared with 48% for GPT-5.6 Sol. Astra is rolling out through ChatGPT, API, Azure and AWS Bedrock.
