Find the Best Y-Level
The best way to find diamonds is to mine around Y-level -59 in modern Minecraft versions. Diamonds can generate between Y-levels 16 and -64, but deeper areas offer better chances. Carry plenty of torches, food, and tools before heading underground, as deep mining can quickly become dangerous.
Try Branch Mining
Branch mining remains one of the most reliable ways to search for diamonds. Create a main tunnel and dig smaller paths from both sides. Keep the tunnels two blocks high and space them apart so you can expose more blocks without wasting time mining unnecessary areas.
Explore Deep Caves
Large underground caves can reveal exposed diamond ore without requiring hours of digging. Look around deep cave walls, floors, and ledges, especially below Y-level -50. Bring torches and watch for hostile mobs. Water buckets are also useful when exploring caves with lava pools and dangerous drops.
Watch For Lava
Lava becomes a major threat while searching for diamonds deep underground. Always carry a water bucket and avoid breaking blocks directly below or above yourself. When you find diamond ore near lava, carefully clear the surrounding area first to prevent the diamonds from falling into lava.
Use An Efficient Pickaxe
A diamond or netherite pickaxe makes mining much faster and lasts longer than weaker tools. Avoid using a wooden or stone pickaxe for serious diamond hunting. An iron pickaxe can mine diamonds, but stronger tools help you clear tunnels quickly and spend less time replacing equipment.
Get Fortune Enchantment
Fortune is one of the best enchantments for diamond mining because it can increase the number of diamonds dropped from each ore block. Save your diamond ore until you have a Fortune pickaxe if possible. This can greatly improve your diamond supply without needing to find more ore.

Diamond hunting is partly about choosing the right method and partly about staying patient. Combine deep mining, branch tunnels, and cave exploration instead of relying on one strategy. Keep your inventory organized, carry backup tools, and mark explored tunnels to avoid wasting time searching the same areas.
