Intel vs AMD: Which Stock to Invest in Right Now?

Aayushi Jain

Intel’s Strategic Shift Intel Corporation (INTC) is moving away from a PC-centric business to focus on data-centric operations such as AI and autonomous driving. With its IDM 2.0 strategy, Intel aims to improve manufacturing efficiency and cost transparency while expanding its AI and semiconductor capabilities.

Intel’s AI and Manufacturing Push Intel’s Xeon 6 processors, designed for large AI workloads, position the company as a key player in the AI ecosystem. With $7.86 billion in U.S. government funding under the CHIPS and Science Act, Intel is advancing semiconductor manufacturing and packaging projects in multiple states, strengthening long-term growth potential.

Intel’s Challenges A significant portion of Intel’s revenue comes from China, where tightening U.S. export regulations and local competition pose challenges. Additionally, Intel lags behind AMD and NVIDIA in GPU and AI performance, limiting its competitiveness in generative AI and high-performance computing.

AMD’s Growing Footprint Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has expanded beyond consumer PCs into enterprise and AI markets. Its MI300 accelerator family, based on the CDNA 3 architecture, supports large AI workloads and generative AI training, benefiting from strong enterprise adoption and cloud deployments.

AMD’s Technological Edge AMD leverages 7-nanometer process technology from TSMC to deliver high-performance processors and GPUs. Products like the Radeon RX 7900 combine multiple process nodes for optimized GPU performance, strengthening AMD’s position in servers, AI, and mobile devices.

Financials and Valuation Zacks estimates indicate Intel’s 2025 sales may decline by 1.7%, while EPS could grow 215.4%. AMD’s 2025 sales are expected to rise 26.9%, with EPS growth of 19.3%. Intel trades at a forward price/sales ratio of 2.02, significantly lower than AMD’s 7.05, making Intel more attractive from a valuation perspective.

While Intel offers attractive valuation and long-term AI potential, AMD’s strong technological edge, expanding AI footprint, and consistent earnings growth make it a better positioned investment for 2025. Investors seeking growth may favor AMD, whereas value-focused investors might consider Intel.
