India's EV Future: Maruti Suzuki & Toyota’s Joint Ventures

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are joining forces to create India’s first jointly developed EV, a state-of-the-art electric SUV. This exciting venture signifies a commitment to advancing sustainable transportation, both domestically and in international markets.

The new electric SUV production will kick off in 2025 at Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. This strategic location underscores India’s rising influence in EV manufacturing and marks a significant step for the the future of the country's automotive industry.

The SUV is a collaborative effort by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu, merging expertise from each brand to deliver an innovative EV. This joint development represents a milestone in India’s automotive sector and a promising future for local Electric vehicle innovation.

Equipped with a 60-kilowatt-hour battery pack, the SUV is designed for superior efficiency and longer driving range. This battery capacity promises Indian consumers a reliable EV with sustainable, long-lasting performance suitable for daily commutes and long trips.

The Maruti Suzuki eVX version of the SUV is set to launch in India ahead of Toyota’s release. This early rollout will give Maruti Suzuki a unique positioning in the Indian EV market and attract local buyers first.

Both Maruti Suzuki and Toyota versions will also be exported to markets such as Japan, Europe, and the Middle East. This international reach highlights the companies' ambition to make Indian-manufactured EVs competitive on the global stage.

Although Suzuki and Toyota have collaborated on fuel vehicles before, this marks their debut in EV development. This joint EV effort signals a new chapter in their partnership, adapting their strengths to the evolving global shift toward electric mobility.
