How to Manage Ad Preferences on WhatsApp

Simran Mishra

Ads Only Appear in the Updates Tab: WhatsApp now displays ads inside the Updates tab which includes Status and Channels. Your private chats and calls remain untouched and fully secure. This ensures advertising stays separate from personal communication

Manage Your Preferences Using Accounts Center: Open WhatsApp and go to Settings to find the Accounts Center. Inside the Ad Preferences section you can manage your interests and review recent advertisers. These settings apply across all Meta apps and help shape the ads you see.

Hide Ads That Appear in Status Updates: When an ad appears in the Status section, tap the three dot menu to find options like Hide Ad or Hide Ads From This Advertiser. This helps you quickly remove ads that feel irrelevant or unhelpful from your feed.

Control Ads That Appear Inside Channels: In the Channels section, ads are marked with a Sponsored label. Tap this label to choose Hide Ad or Report Ad. This gives you direct control and allows you to keep your Channels experience more comfortable and cleaner.

Understand Why a Specific Ad Appears: You can view Why You Are Seeing This Ad to learn what factors influenced it. These usually include your region, language, channels you follow and interactions inside the Updates tab. Private messages are never used for targeting.

Ads Do Not Use Your Personal Chats: WhatsApp keeps ads fully separate from your private conversations. Personal chats, group messages and calls remain end to end encrypted and protected. Ads are based on limited and non sensitive activity inside Updates only.

Keep Your Feed Clean With Simple Controls: Regularly checking Ad Preferences and hiding or reporting unwanted ads helps keep your experience smooth. These tools give you the power to shape what appears so your WhatsApp feed stays relevant and comfortable to use.
