How to Block Unknown Callers on iPhone

Somatirtha

Tired of spam or unknown numbers disturbing you? iPhones let you silence or block them easily using built-in privacy tools. Here’s a quick guide to stop unwanted calls and keep only trusted numbers ringing your phone.

An unknown caller is any number not saved in your Contacts or not identified by Apple’s Mail, Messages, or Siri. Sometimes, it also includes calls showing “No Caller ID”. Apple’s settings let you silence or screen such callers.

Go to Settings → Phone → Silence Unknown Callers and toggle it ON. Once enabled, calls from numbers not in your contacts, messages, or recent calls will go straight to voicemail without ringing or showing notifications.

You can block frequent spam or marketing numbers. Open the Phone app → Recents, tap the (i) icon beside the number, then select Block this Caller. This permanently blocks that number from contacting you via calls or messages.

Install trusted spam-blocking apps from the App Store like Truecaller or Hiya. Then go to Settings → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification, and enable the app. These apps automatically detect and silence suspicious or telemarketing calls.

Newer iPhones include “Screen Unknown Callers,” which asks callers to state their name before connecting. You’ll see a transcript and decide whether to answer. This adds privacy while still allowing important unknown calls to come through.

Save all essential numbers, check voicemail often, and review recent calls to ensure no legitimate calls are lost. For extra control, set up Focus Mode → Do Not Disturb → Allow Calls From Contacts Only. Stay protected, stay reachable.
