How to Avoid TikTok Shadowbans: Rules Every Creator Should Know

Simran Mishra

A TikTok shadowban is a silent drop in reach where your videos stop appearing on the For You Page (FYP). Views can fall by 80–90% overnight due to algorithm flags.

Warning signs include sudden view drops, FYP traffic falling to 0–10%, low engagement rates, and videos only reaching followers instead of new audiences, limiting overall growth and visibility.

Common causes include guideline violations like misinformation, unsafe content, or hate speech. Spammy behavior such as overposting, mass following, or repetitive comments also signals bot-like activity to TikTok’s AI system.

Avoid spam tactics by posting only 1–3 quality videos daily, spaced 3–4 hours apart. Do not reuse the same captions, hashtags, or repost identical content repeatedly across your account.

Use hashtags and audio wisely. Stick to 3–5 relevant tags, avoid banned hashtags, and always use licensed music from TikTok’s library to prevent muting, restrictions, or reduced reach.

Check if you’re shadowbanned by reviewing analytics. If FYP traffic is near zero or your video doesn’t appear under a unique hashtag search, your content may be restricted by the algorithm.

To recover, pause posting for 48–72 hours, delete risky content, clear cache, and restart with high-quality, original videos. Consistency and clean behavior help rebuild trust within one to two weeks.
