Automated Production Line
Xpeng has launched an automated production line designed to manufacture advanced humanoid robots. The facility represents the company’s push toward large-scale robot production by combining automation with manufacturing technologies. Xpeng says the system can handle several core production processes with limited human intervention, highlighting how industrial robotics could increasingly support the manufacturing of humanoid machines.
IRON Humanoid Robot
Xpeng’s IRON humanoid robot is at the centre of the company’s production efforts. During a demonstration, the robot was shown completing assembly before walking independently away from the production line. The demonstration highlights Xpeng’s effort to integrate humanoid robotics into its manufacturing strategy while developing systems capable of supporting future commercial production.
Robot-Making Robots
The new facility is notable because robots are being used to manufacture other robots. Xpeng is applying automated machinery across production processes, creating a manufacturing environment where robotic systems contribute to building humanoid machines. The approach reflects the company’s broader ambition to develop scalable production capabilities as demand for advanced humanoid robots grows.
80 Percent Automation
Xpeng says more than 80 percent of the core processes at its humanoid robot production line are automated. The company is drawing on manufacturing expertise developed through its electric vehicle business to support robot production. Greater automation could help standardise assembly processes, improve production efficiency and create a pathway toward larger-scale manufacturing of humanoid robots.
Mass Production Plans
Xpeng plans to begin mass production of its humanoid robots by the end of 2026. The company’s automated production line is intended to support this goal by increasing manufacturing capacity and reducing reliance on manual processes. The move comes as technology companies increasingly explore commercial applications for humanoid robots across industrial and other environments.
2027 Deliveries
Xpeng plans to officially launch and deliver its humanoid robots in China and overseas markets during 2027. The planned international expansion indicates that the company is looking beyond domestic demand as it develops its robotics business. Deliveries will follow the planned mass-production phase, subject to the company’s manufacturing and commercial rollout plans.
IRON Specifications
Xpeng’s IRON humanoid robot features 76 degrees of freedom, including 21 degrees of freedom in each hand. The robot also uses three Turing AI chips for onboard computing. These specifications are designed to support movement, manipulation and artificial intelligence capabilities, forming part of Xpeng’s broader effort to develop increasingly capable humanoid robots for future applications.
