Best MacOS Settings to Run Your MacBook Faster

Simran Mishra

Clean Startup Items: Go to System Settings > General > Login Items. Remove apps you don’t need at startup and stop unnecessary background agents for smoother performance.

Reduce Visual Effects: Head to Accessibility > Display. Enable Reduce Motion and Reduce Transparency. Switch window animations to Scale and avoid Stage Manager if unused.

Free Up Storage: Open System Settings > General > Storage. Use “Recommendations” to delete unused files and move large ones to cloud or external storage.

Use Activity Monitor: Go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor. Identify apps that hog CPU or memory and quit those you’re not using to free up system resources.

Update macOS and Apps: Always keep your system updated via System Settings > Software Update. Updates include bug fixes and performance improvements critical for speed.

Restart Regularly: Restarting clears out temporary files and memory. It also helps Apple Silicon Macs reset key components like SMC and NVRAM.

Disable Low Power Mode: If speed is your focus, disable Low Power Mode under System Settings > Battery. It slows performance to save battery, so keep it off when plugged in.
