YouTube is set to implement a major update to its policy, and the changes won’t be good news to many creators. The YouTube Partner Program policy will undergo important upgrades to its guidelines starting July 15. The entertainment giant aims to address concerns regarding ‘mass-produced’ and ‘repetitive’ content. This change specifically targets creators who use AI-generated video with minimal human intervention, commonly referred to as AI-generated content.

The update will introduce clearer guidelines on what can and cannot be monetized. This step also reinforces YouTube's commitment to originality and authentic content.

What Exactly Is YouTube Targeting with the New Update?

This policy change states that AI slop, or low-effort video created with automated tools, is non-monetizable. Examples include videos with AI narration over stock footage, repetitive shorts, and AI-generated music compilations. Some reaction and commentary creators are concerned about this new policy. 

According to the YouTube creator Liaison, reaction-style content is indeed eligible if it adds sufficient value through commentary and editing.

How Is YouTube Strengthening Enforcement?

Although the policy is not new, enforcement tools will be enhanced from July 15. YouTube will employ improved systems to track and restrict the demonetization of channels that upload repetitive or mass-produced creativity. Repeat offenders will stand the risk of being removed from the YouTube Partner Program, with bans and suspensions for repeat offenses. 

It is a reaction to the unchecked proliferation of AI-generated videos, with some even portraying deepfake likeness. It is starting to concern marketers, creators, and platform owners alike.

Creators known for reaction videos or clip compilations should assess whether their content truly adds value. Users may need to:

  • Create a personal voiceover or provide context and analysis.

  • Edit or transform it meaningfully.

  • Avoid all-encompassing bulk uploads without some unique insight.

Those who indulge in AI-generated music, repetitive formats, or minimal editing risk losing monetization as well as YPP eligibility.
