Earn commissions via YouTube sales: Learn the eligibility criteria and how to join YouTube’s shopping program

YouTube has rolled out its Shopping feature for video creators in India on October 25,2024. The feature will be available across web, mobile apps, and connected TVs.

From today, eligible creators will be able to tag brands and products in their videos. This will be done in such a way that viewers can purchase them directly from Flipkart and Myntra. The new feature is part of the platforms' e-commerce partnerships with Flipkart and Myntra.

In South Korea and the United States, the YouTube Shopping program lets creators make money from people's purchases made off via tagged links. Creators can tag up to 30 products in one video, livestream, or Shorts, once a channel's application is approved.

Eligibility Requirements for Joining as a Creator

The channels have to be eligible for the program. They need to be affiliated with the YouTube Partner Program, and with at least more than 10,000 subscribers. The "Made for Kids" channels are not qualified to use the feature. Neither are those that have Community Guideline Strikes in sensitive areas. Products tags will also not appear in videos that are claimed.

How to Join

Eligible creators must visit YouTube Studio, log in, go to "Earn" in the menu. Then, click on "Programs" followed by "Join Now." Only after accepting terms of service will they gain access to new affiliate marketing capabilities.

New Revenue Source

This move marks a significant step for YouTube in offering creators alternative revenue channels, The more e-commerce features are embedded in the platform as it grows, the more it takes its position critically in the evolving landscape of online content creation and monetization.

By bringing the service of YouTube Shopping to India, the platform can be even more interactive and rewarding for creators and viewers.
