Xbox Game Pass is losing one of its biggest RPGs today. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is leaving the Xbox subscription service on August 31, after a more than six-month journey. The game initially joined the service in February 2026 and, in the meantime, received multiple updates and expansions, including Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
The game gave subscribers access to Geralt’s huge fantasy adventure without needing to buy it separately. Its removal could be a tough one for players still working through its long story and side quests. However, the removal doesn’t seem to be a separate decision, especially considering Gamescom 2026's announcement of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- Remastered.
The Witcher 3 is not leaving alone. Another Crab’s Treasure, I Am Your Beast, Neon Abyss, and One Lonely Outpost will also disappear from Game Pass on August 31. Noticeably, all these games joined the service between March 2025 and February 2026. Microsoft usually changes the Game Pass library in waves, so the removals make room for new titles coming to the service. One of the announced titles that The Witcher 3 players can look forward to on Game Pass is Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
Once a game is removed, players do not lose their progress immediately. Players never lose their progress simply because a game leaves Game Pass. Save data remains linked to the account. If players later buy the same game, they can continue from their existing progress on a compatible version.
There is also a small saving opportunity. Game Pass subscribers can buy departing games at a discount before they leave the service. The usual discount is at least 20%, making it worth checking the price before August 31.
The Witcher 3 remains the biggest name in this month's departures. Players who have not finished Geralt’s journey have very little time left. For those who want to keep the adventure, buying the game is the safest option. Otherwise, August 31 marks the end of its current Game Pass run.
