A Singapore-based venture capitalist says he would rather spend $120 on AI subscriptions than hire an intern. For Marc Palet, AI tools have become a practical way to handle repetitive work and save time.
Palet, 26, works at OMVC and has invested in more than 12 AI companies since starting his venture capital career. He began using ChatGPT in 2023 and later adopted tools including Claude, n8n, Claude Code, Cursor and Replit, along with transcription APIs.
Speaking to Business Insider, Palet said he uses these tools to build automations around his work. One of his early systems was designed to summarize founder meetings recorded through Fireflies.
The system turns those conversations into structured information about a company's problems and other relevant details, reducing the need to manually prepare notes.
Palet has since expanded his use of AI to other parts of his work. His systems now help draft quarterly limited partner reports and assist with audit work.
The time saved has also allowed him to increase his writing output on LinkedIn. Palet said he went from publishing one long article every two months to one every three weeks. He credits the increased output with generating more deal flow.
“I realised that AI is much more efficient than training an intern for a month, only for them to stay for three months. AI also does things the way I want them done. I realised that AI plus me is more powerful than me plus an intern,” Palet said.

Palet's latest automation was built using Claude Code. It collects information from Gmail, Slack, call transcripts, newsletters and podcasts and organises it by portfolio company.
The system was inspired by OpenAI's Andrej Karpathy and his work on self-updating knowledge bases. When new information comes in, the AI identifies the relevant portfolio company and updates its page.
Rather than simply adding new information, the system rewrites the page to keep the details organised and coherent.
“If there's a new Slack message, the AI figures out which company it's about and updates the relevant page. And it doesn't just copy and paste new information, it rewrites the page so everything stays coherent,” he said.
For Palet, the main benefit is time. He believes that for a small VC firm, reducing repetitive work allows more time to be spent on strategic growth.
