Visa is cutting 2,600 jobs worldwide as the company changes its workforce strategy around artificial intelligence. The job cuts affect about 7% of Visa’s global workforce and started on July 29.

Technology and product teams face much of the impact as Visa shifts more work toward AI. India has also seen layoffs, with employees receiving unexpected emails early in the morning.

Visa has more than 3,500 employees in India across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The company has not said how many Indian employees lost their jobs in the latest Visa layoffs 2026

Reports said some employees received layoff emails between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. One team reportedly lost 10 of its 28 members. Senior employees and managers also faced the Visa job cuts.

Visa wants to reduce costs and move resources toward areas with stronger growth. Artificial intelligence plays an important role in this plan. CEO Ryan McInerney has also talked about agentic AI systems that can complete tasks with limited human help. The move could change how technology teams work across the company.

Former Visa employee Arnab Das also shared his experience on X after the layoffs. “My entire team at Visa just got laid off, including my manager,” Das wrote. He also said his former manager had strong performance reviews and owned a product from start to finish.

The Visa India layoffs add to growing concerns about AI and jobs in India’s technology sector. Other global companies have also reduced staff while investing more in AI. The trend shows that technology workers may need new skills as companies change how work gets done.
