UNI Breakout Gains Steam as CME Futures and Whales Fuel Rally

Uniswap climbed more than 15% above USD 10 after breaking from a year-long price base, supported by whale accumulation and CME Group’s planned regulated futures launch.

Tracked whale wallets bought nearly USD 4 million worth of UNI through on-chain transactions. Meanwhile, CME Group confirmed plans to launch standard and Micro Uniswap futures on October 19.

The two developments arrived as UNI cleared major technical levels within a rounding-bottom formation. The chart now places USD 12.0532 as the next key resistance area, while USD 9.2734 remains important support.

Whale Buying Accompanies UNI Breakout Above Key Base

On-chain wallet data showed close to USD 4 million in UNI purchases by tracked whale addresses. The buying occurred as UNI recorded a sharp daily price advance. The purchases came through identifiable wallet activity rather than exchange order flow. At the same time, UNI moved above levels that had contained price action during its extended base.

The chart shows a rounding-bottom structure that developed across several months. UNI then pushed beyond important resistance with a strong daily candle as trading activity accelerated.

The breakout therefore followed a longer period of consolidation rather than a single-session price spike. UNI later traded above USD 10, marking a gain of around 15%.

The technical structure now places USD 12.0532 as an important level above current prices. By contrast, USD 9.2734 remains the level buyers need to defend if the breakout retraces.

CME Plans Regulated Uniswap Futures for October 19

CME Group announced on September 22 that it plans to launch Uniswap and Bitcoin Cash futures on October 19, pending regulatory review. The exchange plans to offer both full-size and Micro contracts. Each standard Uniswap contract will represent 10,000 UNI, while each Micro contract will represent 1,000 UNI.

Bitcoin Cash contracts will cover 250 BCH for the standard version and 25 BCH for the Micro contract. The new products will expand CME Group’s single-asset cryptocurrency derivatives lineup. Existing contracts already cover Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche, and Sui.

The contracts will trade on Globex. CME began around-the-clock cryptocurrency trading on May 29, expanding access to its regulated crypto derivatives market. Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group’s Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products, said market participants increasingly need broader regulated tools for managing digital-asset price risk.

CME Crypto Trading Activity Expands With Altcoin Products

CME reported average daily crypto futures and options volume of 279,800 contracts during the first half of 2026. This represented USD 8.3 billion in average daily notional value. Average open interest reached 264,600 contracts, representing about USD 15.4 billion in notional value during the same period.

CME has also expanded its altcoin derivatives offering throughout 2026. Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui futures have collectively generated more than USD 1 billion in year-to-date notional volume.

Its August cryptocurrency average daily volume reached 175,000 contracts. CME valued that activity at about USD 12 billion in notional terms in its September 2 volume report.

Bitcoin Cash also reacted sharply after the September 22 announcement. BCH climbed from USD 270 to USD 328 on Binance within 90 minutes of the 8:30 a.m. ET release. BCH later extended the move toward USD 340. During the same period, UNI traded more than 15% higher and moved above USD 10.

Noel Kimmel, President at Ripple Prime, said institutions managing crypto exposure need continuous access to regulated derivatives supported by clearing and financing infrastructure.

CME’s planned UNI contracts will provide standard and smaller contract sizes when trading begins, subject to regulatory review. UNI traders will meanwhile continue watching USD 12.0532 above and USD 9.2734 below.
