US President Donald Trump bought up to USD 1.6 million of NVIDIA stock and sold up to USD 1 million worth in August, according to a financial disclosure released on October 8. The disclosure came on the same day Trump was preparing to award NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang the National Medal of Science, the highest US government honor for scientific achievement.
The NVIDIA transactions were among hundreds of trades Trump made in August. The disclosure has drawn attention since the Trump administration is considering policies that could affect NVIDIA, including restrictions governing exports of the company's advanced chips.
Trump's latest filing, signed on September 17 and made public Thursday, showed purchases and sales involving NVIDIA shares during August. The reported transaction ranges indicate that the president bought up to USD 1.6 million in NVIDIA stock while selling as much as USD 1 million.
The disclosure does not indicate that Trump personally selected the trades. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said third-party financial institutions independently manage the president's portfolio and follow recognized market indexes. He said independent managers made the investment decisions and that there were no conflicts of interest.
The stock disclosure coincides with a ceremony at which Trump is scheduled to honor Huang with the National Medal of Science. The award recognizes Americans who have made significant contributions to scientific knowledge across areas including physical, biological, mathematical and engineering sciences.
Huang is among several technology leaders the Trump administration is recognizing. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Google co-founder Sergey Brin are also scheduled to receive the National Medal of Science.
The timing of Trump's NVIDIA investment disclosure is notable since the administration is weighing policies that could influence the chipmaker's business. Export rules covering advanced NVIDIA processors have become an important issue for the company as Washington continues to regulate the flow of sophisticated chips to overseas markets.
NVIDIA's business is closely tied to demand for advanced processors used in artificial intelligence systems and data centers, making US export policy a key factor in its international operations.

The NVIDIA transactions were part of a much larger set of trades Trump disclosed. The latest filing showed hundreds of transactions during August, reflecting the continued activity in his investment portfolio.
The White House maintains that Trump handles his investments independently, without direction from the president or his family. The disclosure therefore puts two developments involving NVIDIA in the spotlight at the same time: Trump's personal investment activity and his administration's recognition of Huang's contribution to science and technology.
