Tether has secured commitments from 15 Bitcoin mining companies, equipment manufacturers and mining pools to support its open-source Mining Development Kit (MDK) as the stablecoin issuer expands its AI automation technology.
The company announced on October 24 that participants would develop software integrations connecting their mining systems to a shared platform. Tether expects the framework to support automated monitoring and equipment management across different mining operations.
The participating companies include Bitmain, Bitdeer, Canaan, MicroBT, Foundry Digital, F2Pool, Luxor Technology and OCEAN. Other participants include ACME Swisstech, Elektron Energy, EMCD, Heatbit, Proto, SpiderPool and Stratum V2.
Each participant has committed to developing and maintaining software connections that allow its mining infrastructure to communicate with MDK. The system will support applications across equipment from different manufacturers without requiring separate software for every device.
However, Tether has not confirmed that all 15 participants have completed their integrations. The announcement concerns development commitments rather than completed deployments.
The latest development follows Tether's launch of its open-source MDK framework in April 2026. The company developed the software to give mining operators greater control over equipment, energy consumption and operational data.
Bitcoin mining facilities often use machines from different manufacturers, with each system requiring its own management tools. This creates challenges for operators managing thousands of devices across multiple locations.
MDK addresses these differences through software components called Workers. Each participant will maintain a Worker that translates information from its equipment or mining services into a common format.
Developers can then build monitoring systems and automation applications that communicate with supported mining infrastructure through one interface.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino explained the need for shared software standards, stating, "That does not work at scale if every machine speaks a different language."
The framework allows manufacturers to retain control over their technology while choosing which functions developers can access.
Tether confirmed that its QVAC mining agent is already operating on MDK. The AI application connects with mining infrastructure through the shared software framework.
The company expects AI tools to help operators monitor machines, identify equipment problems and adjust mining operations. However, Tether has not published independent performance results showing improvements in electricity costs or mining efficiency.
The development builds on Tether's open-source Mining OS release in February. That platform provides tools for managing mining hardware, power consumption and site operations.
Tether has expanded its AI investments beyond mining software. On October 20, the company participated in Tenstorrent's funding round, which raised USD 1.5 billion at a USD 6.2 billion valuation.
Tether scheduled MDK version 0.11 for the October 23–24 Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano, Switzerland. The company targets the release of its first stable version, MDK 1.0, before the end of 2026.
Meanwhile, developers can access the existing open-source framework to test integrations and build applications. MDK supports Windows, macOS and Linux, allowing development across different operating environments.
Tether has opened participation to additional Bitcoin mining companies, equipment manufacturers and software developers. Future integrations will depend on participants developing and maintaining their respective Workers.
