Tata Communications will invest nearly USD 450 million to build high-speed network infrastructure connecting India's AI data center corridors, as demand for reliable data connectivity grows alongside AI and cloud adoption. The company announced the investment on October 26, 2026, Reuters said.
The plan involves laying around 10,000 kilometers of new long-haul fiber cables across India. The network will connect data center clusters with cloud service providers, global capability centers (GCCs), banks and other enterprises that require high-speed data transmission.
The proposed network will be developed in three phases, beginning with the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai corridor, which links several important technology and business hubs.
Subsequent phases will extend connectivity along the east coast and across western India's data center ecosystems. The expansion will include locations such as Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar, and GIFT City.
The infrastructure is intended to strengthen connections between India's AI data centers and key business hubs, supporting organizations that need reliable connectivity to run data-intensive applications and cloud services.

Tata Communications provides data connectivity and cybersecurity services to enterprises. The investment comes as companies increasingly rely on AI applications, cloud platforms, and data centers, all of which require dependable, high-capacity networks.
The new fiber infrastructure is expected to improve links between data center clusters and businesses using these services. Cloud providers and financial institutions are among the organizations the network is intended to serve.
The expansion will add long-haul fiber connectivity across key technology corridors and business centers. By connecting major data center ecosystems, the project aims to support the movement of large volumes of data between facilities and enterprises.
The Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai corridor will form the first phase, followed by expansion across the east coast and western India. Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar and GIFT City are among the locations included in the plan.
The investment marks Tata Communications' push to expand the network infrastructure supporting India's growing AI ecosystem, with the company planning to connect key data center locations and business hubs through a new high-speed fiber network.
