Steam Deck reached an impressive milestone that players hardly imagined a few years back. The launch of the handheld console in 2022 opened the door for players to access their Steam Library on the go, but the issue was that not every game ran smoothly on it. It’s been nearly four years, and the stats show that Steam Deck has more than 30,000 games that are marked either Verified or Playable on Valve’s handheld.
The two labels are not the same. A Verified game is expected to work well on Steam Deck without major changes. Its controls, display, performance, and system features have been checked for the handheld. A Playable game also works, but players may need to make a few small changes before playing.
The numbers show how much the library has grown. SteamDB data lists 8,964 Verified games and 21,083 Playable games. Together, they push the total beyond 30,000, that is a big jump from the 3,000 games either Verified or Playable back in May 2022.
Here, players should note that games without either badge are not always broken. Some can still run well on Steam Deck. It may cause a few issues for players, but it can still be played and enjoyed.
The milestone gives Steam Deck owners plenty of choice. Still, the badges do not cover every game on Steam. The platform has more than 130,000 titles, which means many games have not been checked yet.
An Unsupported label also does not always mean a game will fail to run. Some older games can work with little trouble despite not having a Verified or Playable badge. The huge game library remains one of Steam Deck’s biggest selling points. Newer handhelds can offer more power, but Steam Deck has a simple setup and direct access to Steam. For buyers who care more about game choice than top-end power, that is a strong advantage.
