Starlink has generated massive online buzz this week after its official website briefly displayed the prices for its upcoming satellite internet services in India.
The sudden announcement of hardware and subscription costs ignited immediate speculation. Media outlets and social platforms were filled with rumors, with the figures perceived as Starlink’s official launch prices for India.
Within minutes, screenshots went viral, setting off debates about affordability and launch timelines across the country.
Now, the company has stepped in to assert that the numbers were never real.
Lauren Dreyer, the vice president of Starlink Business Operations, directly addressed the confusion in a post on X. She said the Starlink India website is not live and that pricing has not been announced. Orders are not open for customers in India.
According to Dreyer, the numbers that appeared online were only ‘dummy test data’ that were exposed accidentally due to a configuration glitch. “Those numbers do not reflect what the cost of Starlink service will be in India,” she said, adding that the issue was fixed swiftly.
Her clarification comes amid growing anticipation for Starlink’s entry into India, especially in underserved rural regions where satellite connectivity could be transformative.

Dreyer also pointed out that Starlink is currently prioritizing obtaining final government approvals before turning on service in India, having worked its way through the regulatory requirements involving licensing, spectrum-related permissions, and compliance checks for months.
“We are eager to connect the people of India with high-speed Internet,” she said, adding that the service, as well as the India website, will go live only after the requisite clearances.
Industry rumors, although unofficial, claim that Starlink might start services in India in the first quarter of 2026, depending on the progress of regulatory approvals. Until approvals are finalized, analysts caution against trusting leaked screenshots or unverified online claims regarding pricing or hardware costs.
The wait and the speculation continue for millions of people who hope to get reliable satellite-based broadband. The big question now, as India looks ahead, is: when will Starlink officially launch its services for the Indian users?
