Sony has released another software update for the PlayStation 5. This is another step taken by the gaming giant to stop hackers from breaking into the console’s system. The latest update, version 26.07-14.22.00, arrived on November 2, following the previous one, version 14.20, released just 11 days earlier.
The timing has also caught the attention of gamers, as GTA 6 is set to arrive on November 19. However, Sony hasn’t said whether the update has anything to do with the upcoming game, but the patch notes clearly say that it’s a security-related update. Last month, the company struggled massively with PS5 jailbreaks for prior firmwares.
Though these attacks have been around for months, in September, hackers found a way to break into consoles running firmware versions 7.00 to 13.60. Sony responded with software updates to fix the known issues. However, hackers continued to look for new ways around its security. One security researcher even managed to run their own code on firmware 14.20 within hours of its release.
Sony believes that GTA 6 requires at least 14.20 to run, which, after the latest patch note, was upgraded to 14.22. Before November 19, the company may release another patch note to tighten the security of the console.

Software updates help Sony fix security gaps and keep the PS5 safe. These security updates often make it harder for hackers to change the console’s system or run unauthorized software. Older consoles that have not received the latest updates may still face known security risks.
Sony also has a bug bounty program through HackerOne. It pays security researchers for finding and reporting system flaws. Despite these efforts, jailbreak groups continue to study the console. Some want to run unofficial apps, while others want more control over the system. This is why Sony's fight against jailbreaks is unlikely to end with one update.
