Sony has announced a new Midnight Black version of the PS5 Digital Edition. In recent times, the tech giant has increased the hardware price multiple times in every region that a standard PS5 costs 97,980 Yen in Japan. The price varies between USD 500 to USD 800 in the United States. Thus, PS5 gaming has now gone out of reach for many gamers across the world.
To address this issue, the new Midnight Black version of the PS5 Digital Edition arrived, but the twist is that this console is limited to Japan only. It will launch on November 19, 2026, with a price tag of 55,000 Yen. Pre-orders will open on October 20 through Japanese PlayStation stores and other local retailers. The price may attract buyers, but there’s hardly any chance that this console will be available anywhere else except for Japan.
The new model will offer 825GB of storage and the same gaming features as the existing models. The only point is that it is made exclusively for the Japanese market. Users must keep the system language in Japanese and use a PlayStation account set to Japan. The console also has no disc drive, so players who want to use physical games must buy one separately. Sony's matching Midnight Black disc drive will cost 11,980 Yen and go on sale on the same day.

The Japanese account rule is a key concern. However, importing the console from Japan won’t be completely impossible. However, players who already have existing PSN accounts registered to countries other than Japan won’t be able to use the latest console. Thus, even if it can be imported, players should check how the rules affect their game library, purchases, and online services.
The listed price may also rise after shipping, customs duties, taxes, and currency conversion. Warranty support is another concern, as local service centers may not cover a console bought in Japan. Some stores may also refuse overseas orders or offer limited return options.
