Qualcomm introduced its new mobile processor, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, last week. The newest variant provides significant performance improvements over the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3. Based on a 4nm process with a 64-bit octa-core Kryo CPU, the chip is equipped with four high-performance cores running at 2.4GHz, and four power-saving cores at 1.8GHz.
According to Qualcomm, this equates to 36% quicker CPU performance and a 59% increase in GPU performance for optimized gaming, multimedia, and general smartphone performance.
Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 is a low-cost Android phone chipset that supports Full HD+ resolution with a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz, has LPDDR5 RAM up to 3200MHz, and UFS 3.1 storage.
Additionally, it boasts a high-resolution camera compatibility, i.e., a single 200MP sensor or dual 16MP cameras. The SoC gets a triple 12-bit Spectra ISP, which comes with hardware-based multi-frame noise reduction and H.264 video recording among its features.
Connectivity features include 5G mmWave, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and Bluetooth LE for much-improved and remarkably faster connections. Quick Charge 4 Plus is supported via USB Type-C, and fingerprint scanning is available through Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Sensor and 3D Sonic Sensor Max.
The chip presents high precision that supports the satellite navigation systems GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, QZSS, and NavIC, letting it achieve accuracies even at the level of lanes and sidewalks.
The built-in Adreno GPU allows the adoption of the latest APIs, such as OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.1, and OpenCL 2.0 FP. This results in smooth graphics rendering, HDR gaming, and 10-bit color depth. Hardware acceleration of H.265 and VP9 decoding provides smooth video playback, and CPU-GPU enhancements deliver faster app performance and power savings.
