Reddit faced a global outage on 8 December 2025, affecting hundreds of users. According to Downdetector data, over 250 user complaints were reported, peaking around 3:55 PM. Multiple users flagged issues across different access points, suggesting a platform-wide disruption for many.

What Problems Are Users Reporting?

Downdetector showed that 48% of users experienced problems with the website, 42% with the app, and 10% with server connection errors. However, Reddit’s official status page still reported ‘no ongoing issues’ across its services. This hints at a localized or temporary disruption rather than a major internal breakdown.

Is This Part of a Larger Pattern of Internet Service Outages?

Reddit’s outage is the latest in a series of digital disruptions across major platforms in recent months. Early indications suggest that this latest episode is not a part of a wider systemic problem.

How Have Recent Tech Outages Shaped User Experience?

Cloudflare, a major player in the Internet sector, suffered several outages in a row over the past few weeks, resulting in extensive downtime. The last outage that took place on December 5 harmed revered services, including Zerodha, Angel One, Groww, HSBC, and Deliveroo, which experienced ‘500 Internal Server Error’ on millions of devices.

Just last month, another Cloudflare issue disrupted platforms such as X, Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Anthropic, in a development underlining just how fragile global platforms still are to infrastructure-level outages.

Which Other Platforms Have Faced Outages Recently?

AWS is another important pillar of the web ecosystem, and its 15-hour global outage recently affected more than 60 countries. The interruption brought down services like Snapchat, Reddit, Slack, Canva, Fortnite, Lloyds Bank, and even Amazon’s flagship retail platform.

Microsoft has also had its fair share of technical turbulence. An extended outage in October caused service interruption in Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Azure, and Xbox Live for 8 hours, bringing operations and workflows around the world to a grinding halt.

Will Reddit Explain What Caused This Latest Glitch?

With user reports mounting and official channels being mum, the question now is whether it is a case of Reddit acknowledging the disruptions or the issue getting resolved quietly behind the scenes.
