Reddit introduced its new For You feed on October 28, giving users two homepage options across its global platform. The update adds personalized recommendations alongside a separate Following feed, helping users discover communities beyond their existing subscriptions. Reddit plans to roll out the redesigned experience globally over the coming weeks across its platform.
The For You feed combines posts from communities users have joined with algorithmic suggestions based on their interests. Meanwhile, the Following feed displays posts only from communities users have joined. Reddit says the change aims to encourage discovery, participation and stronger connections while giving users more control over their browsing experience.
The redesign brings Reddit closer to platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, X, Threads and Facebook. These services use recommendation systems to introduce content beyond accounts or communities users already follow. Reddit previously recommended outside posts, but the new layout gives discovery its own dedicated feed.
In its announcement, Reddit described the feature as a way to surface new ideas and perspectives. The company said the experience could lead users toward an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest. The change reflects Reddit’s effort to make community discovery a clearer part of its homepage.
The new layout may not appeal to users who prefer seeing posts only from selected communities. Some Reddit users expressed frustration during early testing, particularly over recommendations appearing alongside familiar discussions. The separate Following feed offers an alternative for people who want a more focused browsing experience.
Users can switch between the two feeds whenever they choose, and Reddit remembers their last selection. After the initial rollout, the platform will reopen the feed each user viewed most recently. This allows users to explore recommendations without permanently giving up their existing community-focused experience.
The global rollout will continue over the next few weeks. Reddit has also indicated that it will keep experimenting with discovery tools and controls for refining recommendations.
