Pi Network has completed its Protocol 27 Mainnet upgrade and scheduled Protocol 28 for October 16. Its native token, PI, traded at USD 0.09115, up 4.29% in 24 hours and 7.2% over seven days, according to CoinMarketCap.

Protocol 27 Completes Another Pi Mainnet Upgrade

Pi Network confirmed the completion of Protocol 27 on Mainnet. The team initially targeted September 15 for the upgrade, then announced its completion after that date. Protocol 27 followed several upgrades earlier this year, including Protocol 26.

The team said Protocol 27 gives accounts and applications more flexible ways to authorize smart contract transactions. The change expands the options developers can use when designing how an application approves a transaction.

Pi Network had previously described Protocol 27 as the last planned upgrade in that sequence. It has since announced Protocol 28 and moved the new version onto Testnet. Its next scheduled step is the Mainnet rollout in October.

Protocol 28 Mainnet Upgrade Scheduled for October 16

Pi Network plans to upgrade Mainnet to Protocol 28 on October 16, 2026. All node operators must update their software by October 13, the team said. That deadline falls three days before the planned network change.

Protocol 28 aims to improve how the network handles delays in transaction data. It will let developers upgrade groups of smart contracts at once, rather than updating each contract separately. The team included both changes in its announcement after the Testnet upgrade.

The new version will also give developers a safer way to change stored data as their applications develop. These changes focus on the network’s operation and application maintenance. Pi Network has already moved Protocol 28 onto Testnet ahead of the scheduled Mainnet upgrade.

Pi Network launched Open Network in February 2025, enabling external connections and exchange integrations. The October update follows the protocol changes the team has made during 2026.

PI Price Rebounds Above USD 0.09

PI fell below USD 0.083 earlier in the week before climbing near USD 0.094. It then retreated toward USD 0.085 and returned above USD 0.09. The rebound took its market value back above USD 1 billion, placing it near 65th among cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, according to CoinMarketCap.

Despite the weekly gain, PI remains down about 32.45% over 90 days. Its 30-day return stands at negative 2.55%. The shorter rebound therefore comes within a longer period of falling prices.

PI’s recent swing high lies near USD 0.09508, with a previous rejection area at USD 0.09858. Its recent swing low sits around USD 0.08490, followed by a prior consolidation area near USD 0.08048. At USD 0.09115, the token trades between the recent swing high and low.

Trading activity increased during the seven-day rebound. The seven-day average daily volume reached USD 8.03 million, about 1.3 times its usual level. The 30-day average stood at USD 6.29 million a day, below its usual level for that period.
