Perplexity has launched its Comet browser in India. The AI tech giant has officially launched its Comet browser in India on September 22, 2025. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas made the announcement that Comet will be available for Pro users in India on their Windows and macOS platforms. However, the iOS version of the AI browser isn’t available in India at this point.

Launched in July 2025, Perplexity’s AI web browser is built on the Perplexity AI search engine. The browser is designed for both businesses and individuals who depend on the internet for work, research, and everyday tasks.

What did Aravind Srinivas Say & How Can Users Access It?

Aravind Srinivas announced the release of Comet in India through X (formerly Twitter). On September 22, the company's CEO confirmed this news with a single statement: “Today we released @comet to all Perplexity Pro subscribers in India.”

The highlights of this announcement include the restricted rollout strategy. The web browser will be limited to Perplexity Pro users only. This strategy suggests that the company is limiting the rollout because it likely wants to gather feedback from Pro subscribers before wider access.

While Windows and Mac users can download Comet immediately, Android users have to pre-register and wait for the AI web browser to be released. Notably, Google Play Store hasn't yet received a release date.

For iOS users, the scenario is similar. The App Store does not list the app at this time. Therefore, Apple users must remain in the dark until an official announcement is made about the availability.

What Features is Comet Bringing to Web Browsing?

Unlike traditional browsers, Comet integrates AI directly into the browsing experience. The most notable capability of this browser is its AI-powered sidebar, which can track context across tabs. This feature will make managing research, product comparison, and listing easier than ever. AI in Comet can also streamline workflows, draft emails, and schedule meetings within seconds.

Moreover, Comet is about to replace conventional tab clutter with a prominent ‘workspace’ structure, which will allow for an organized environment that boosts productivity, rather than fragmented browsing. Therefore, Perplexity Comet is not only an AI assistant but also a productivity hub.

What Does this Launch Really Mean?

Comet’s India launch is strategically significant which is also layered with challenges. On one hand, the entry hints at next-level AI integration in web browsing, which will open a new way for Indian professionals, students, and creative artists in how they browse more effectively.

On the other hand, the exclusivity to Pro users and the lack of iOS support pose questions about accessibility.  Additionally, privacy concerns remain. With the AI-assistant accessing across tabs to offer a more personalized experience, user trust will be the most vulnerable part to consider.
