Perplexity is expanding its artificial intelligence platform with a new feature called Teammates, designed to let users delegate ongoing work to AI agents. Instead of responding to individual prompts, these digital assistants can manage projects, coordinate tasks, and continue working in the background with limited human supervision.

Teammates builds on Perplexity Computer, the company's AI-powered system for handling complex tasks. Users can assign different responsibilities to individual agents and allow multiple Teammates to work simultaneously.

The agents retain project goals, previous instructions, files, and feedback across sessions. This means users do not have to explain the same requirements every time they assign a new task.

AI Agents Can Work Together Through Slack

According to Perplexity, teammates can support several business functions, including marketing, sales, customer service, and operations. For example, a sales agent could monitor customer activity, identify changes in ordering patterns, and investigate possible issues using available business records.

Users can track each agent through a dedicated conversation thread, review its progress and provide additional instructions while work is underway. The platform also supports Slack integration. Users can add AI Teammates to channels, allowing colleagues to assign tasks or request updates. Different agents can also pass work between themselves when a project requires multiple steps.

Each Teammate operates with access to the user's existing projects, skills, memory, and connected tools within Perplexity Computer.

Perplexity Max Subscription Required

The new feature is initially available through Perplexity's web platform to subscribers of its Max plan, which costs USD 200 per month. The company has also indicated that native mobile and desktop versions are planned.

With this launch, Perplexity joins a growing group of AI companies developing digital assistants that can take responsibility for longer assignments rather than simply answering questions. OpenAI and Anthropic are pursuing similar ideas through their own work-focused AI agent offerings. The competition is shifting towards systems that can remember instructions, collaborate, and complete tasks with less continuous human involvement.
