United Airlines is set to bring Spotify directly to its in-flight entertainment screens, allowing passengers to access their personal music libraries, playlists and podcasts while travelling. The new integration uses the airline's Starlink-powered Wi-Fi to stream content instead of relying only on entertainment files stored onboard. The move gives travellers another way to enjoy their favourite audio content without depending on smartphones, tablets or laptops throughout the flight.
United has developed a dedicated Spotify application for its seatback entertainment system. Passengers can log in to their accounts and access their saved music, playlists and podcasts directly from their seats.
The integration also supports video podcasts, expanding the range of entertainment available during flights. Users can pick up content from their personal libraries rather than choosing only from a selection prepared by the airline.
United had previously announced its Spotify partnership in June 2025. At the time, the companies introduced more than 450 hours of curated playlists, podcasts and audiobooks across over 130,000 seatback screens.
The latest development takes that arrangement further by allowing passengers to use their own accounts through the in-flight system.

The new experience depends on Starlink satellite connectivity, which United is installing across its fleet. Its high-speed, low-latency internet connection allows passengers to stream content in real time.
Earlier in-flight entertainment systems largely relied on content downloaded and stored on aircraft servers. Better connectivity is changing that approach, making personalised streaming services more practical. United executives said Starlink's coverage and reliability were important factors in bringing the experience to seatback displays, including on long international routes.

United is also considering partnerships with additional third-party streaming platforms. Spotify's integration could serve as a model for expanding the airline's digital entertainment options. The development reflects a broader shift in airline entertainment, where passengers increasingly expect the same personalised digital experiences they enjoy at home.
