OpenAI will offer its artificial intelligence models through Google Cloud in the coming weeks, expanding enterprise access beyond Microsoft. Announced Wednesday, October 21, the deal brings OpenAI products to Google Cloud’s Model Garden, Marketplace and Antigravity coding tool. The move helps businesses access OpenAI technology through existing cloud services and spending commitments.

The agreement includes models such as GPT-6 Astra and Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, according to reports. Google Cloud customers can purchase these tools through its marketplace and use existing cloud budgets. Organizations in regulated industries can also apply Google’s security controls and data governance tools when deploying OpenAI models.

OpenAI Adds Google to its Cloud Distribution Network

The deal marks another step in OpenAI’s move beyond Microsoft’s former exclusive distribution arrangement. After that arrangement ended in April, Amazon Web Services began offering OpenAI models. Google Cloud now gives the ChatGPT maker access to customers across all three major cloud infrastructure providers.

OpenAI said Google Cloud’s long-term investment in machine learning and AI has made it a destination for developers. The companies already had a cloud relationship, with OpenAI using Google infrastructure to run ChatGPT and its API. The latest agreement adds a direct sales channel for OpenAI models through Google’s enterprise platform.

Google Cloud Gains a Major AI Customer

The partnership also supports Google’s effort to attract businesses seeking AI options beyond its own Gemini models. Google Cloud’s annualized revenue growth reached around 82% in the second quarter, compared with 63% in the first. Amazon and Microsoft reported cloud growth of 37% and 42%, respectively.

For OpenAI, wider distribution creates another route to enterprise revenue beyond consumer ChatGPT subscriptions. Companies can access models through familiar procurement systems instead of relying on a single cloud provider. The arrangement also reflects rising demand for computing capacity as AI developers train and deploy increasingly advanced systems.

Microsoft remains an important OpenAI partner, while Google joins Amazon in widening the company’s cloud reach. The deal represents a commercial arrangement between competitors, rather than a broader strategic alliance.
