OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Cyber, a new AI model designed to identify security weaknesses and test potential cyberattacks. The company introduced the model on Thursday, November 5, for selected customers through its Daybreak Red program. OpenAI gave it a 'Critical' cybersecurity rating, highlighting its ability to discover serious flaws and help security teams fix them.

The new cybersecurity AI model targets authorized researchers and organizations conducting security tests. It can identify software weaknesses, develop working exploits and help companies strengthen their systems. OpenAI plans to expand access to all approved Daybreak Red customers over the coming weeks.

GPT-6 Cyber has already delivered notable results during internal security research. OpenAI said the model helped discover 81 previously unknown Firefox vulnerabilities. Mozilla classified these issues as high severity and has started releasing security updates.

The model also helped researchers develop working exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities. OpenAI said 588 of these weaknesses were previously unknown to researchers. The company has shared 304 critical findings with Linux maintainers and proposed patches to address them.

The latest launch also marks a change in OpenAI's cybersecurity safety ratings. GPT-5.6 Cyber previously received a 'High' rating under the company's safety framework. GPT-6 Cyber now holds the higher 'Critical' classification, reflecting its stronger ability to identify and exploit vulnerabilities.

OpenAI is limiting initial access to selected Daybreak Red customers. The program supports advanced security activities, including penetration testing and exploit development. The company also plans to provide its earlier GPT-5.6 Cyber model to every Daybreak Red customer.

The model's stronger capabilities also raise concerns about possible misuse. Cybercriminals could potentially use similar AI abilities to develop attacks or exploit software weaknesses. OpenAI says it has noticed more attempts by malicious groups to misuse AI systems.

GPT-6 Cyber highlights the growing role of AI in cybersecurity. The same technology can help researchers find dangerous flaws faster and support stronger digital protection. However, controlled access remains important as AI models become more capable of developing cyberattacks.
